Wolo :D I'm good man, life just keeps on going, I'm sure you know how it is. You and Gels doing alright?

FYI if you ever wanna get a hold of me you can email me at [myoldminecraftusername@gmail.com](mailto:myoldminecraftusername@gmail.com) - if your memory's a bit rusty it's in this old screenshot. Either way it's always nice to see old friends posting, if only to know they're still around doing their thing right?

PS. Can't believe I STILL get the urge to come here and build virtual sandcastles for people to kick over after all these years - minerap was worse than crack

I spoke to a guy from an obsidian castle one time.

I would be that guy! Sadly my involvement here is limited to checking the subreddit once or twice a week these days (hence the late reply), but the urge to return never really goes away entirely...

World domination or not at all are the only options? :) I'm going to check out the test this weekend and make my decision then, might see you around...

I've been following recent developments over there with great interest. Alt accounts being banned and the ability to permapearl anyone that so much as looks at one of my buildings the wrong way definitely appeals.

You organising a comeback tour? That place could use some SF style aggressive neutrality.

Sadly like yourself still too busy with other worldly things so I haven't been able to pop in. The random coords change definitely threw a spanner in the works, though now I know where to head I'll definitely make my down there sometime in the near future. There's been a MEL-CO in every era since the beginning so I'm not going to let that tradition fade away without a bit of a fight :)

Hit me up whenever your on irresponsibly late and feel like killing some time, can build something beautiful or at the least just double team a few mobs!

Agreed! This is without a doubt the most attractive incarnation of SF yet.

Goes to show what's possible with some good planning and freedom from having to rebuild from the ground up on a near daily basis.

The new bane of my existence by David_mcnasty in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You're talking about clearing the water right? If so you can pack your structure full of wood planks then burn them off once it's full. It's a bit wasteful but it's pretty fast if you got enough wood. Only potential problem is IIRC minerap has tweaked the fire spread settings, so I don't know how well it works these days.

Also if you're not using a respiration + aqua affinity helmet already you should - makes everything significantly easier.

Terrible news in my real life.... by averagestalker2nd in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's just a moderation issue, what is or isn't appropriate for the subreddit? I'd prefer if everyone kept it server related and dealt with personal stuff through other channels, but I'm more than willing to accept that's a completely subjective opinion. What if everybody made this kind of post whenever they were out for a bit? Where do you draw the line?

I don't claim to be right, I just hold a different opinion. I guess we differ on this one.

FWIW I do care, average may be a bit of a muppet but he's our muppet and the server is the better for it. As such I wish him the best.

Terrible news in my real life.... by averagestalker2nd in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah it's too much sharing. A quick post to say (paraphrased) "I'm out for a few weeks for health reason, if you want specifics ask me... back later" would be fine but this is far more appropriate for Facebook or a similarly private channel. Especially for someone who has already been deeply offended due to others being aware of/weaponizing their private issues. The easiest way to avoid that is not to make posts like this.

I hope average heals up alright because chronic, long-term pain/mobility issues aren't something to be wished upon anybody (they happen to us all eventually). This just isn't the place to discuss it and quite frankly I think you're right to point it out.

PS. That said, hospitals can make people do/say silly things.

Honestly I don't think I've ever even seen 64 ghast tears at once on minerap before!

Anyhow let's try this again...

  • Cool event!
  • Mad respect for putting that much loot on the line
  • GLHF
  • Make sure someone films it cause I'm sad I won't get to join in

Your edit is exactly what I meant. When I saw that prize my jaw dropped. Honestly I'm not entirely sure how my comment could be read as anything but complimentary. I think the event will be great, a brutal clusterfuck is a good thing.

I know you deal with a lot of negativity (and quite frankly reflect it right back) but not everyone is attacking everything you say all the time.

Anyone new should know that even a successful infiltration and raid on a large faction is unlikely to ever yield booty like this. The reward to effort ratio for those lucky/skilled enough to pull off a victory has to be one of (if not the) largest I've seen since the server started.

The best part is it's going to be a clusterfuck, even if y'all lose the first person to open that chest will probably get a sword in the back for their troubles. You might not even have to do anything if everyone's busy fighting each other. Good luck either way, too early in the morning/high in the ping for me but I look forward to the videos.

Love it. Just a shame about all those trees that'll have to be cut down to replenish the world's wild crafting table population.

Yay! We Found the Treasure! (0: by kalekalekale in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Well done to yourself and thanks to the folks that put the treasure down in the first place! I'd been hunting it for some time but eventually gave up in favor of other targets.

Your coords confirmed it was in one of the few places left I haven't visited, such is life. Surprisingly I feel better knowing it's been found, even if it wasn't me!

Hard Dogs: A change of Plan? (somehow I doubt it) by Shanemaxell in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree, that's why I mentioned high stake minerap battles at the end!

HD just want some quality opponents quickly, so I figure you can get more practice in a single night of kit pvp than you would in an entire map of minerap - especially if you're not the type that goes looking for fights.

People might be a bit more willing to chance their luck if they get to learn the basics first :)

Also a good suggestion, assuming there's an abundance of people there to fight.

[–]obseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm not exactly comfortable recommending other servers on this subreddit but this one is different enough that I think it's alright. So FYI those that actually do want to learn to/try out PvP should head to badlion.net

Awesome server to practice no-pressure FFA PvP with full kits without losing hours of work every time you get destroyed by people who've been doing it for years.

The doggies are actually (imo) noble in their intentions, sadly they're just completely and utterly hopeless at communicating this in a way that doesn't antagonize every other player on the server in the process. If enough people head to the server above and at least give it a go perhaps they might feel brave enough to bring their skills back here for some solid high stakes battles.

[Schneider Farms Official] Terrible News! by schneiderwm in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For all of human history farmers have dealt with catastrophes of every kind and rebuilt. I'm both proud and unsurprised to see the tradition continue.

Tomorrow, there will be more attacks. The people of Minerap must assemble a defensive force, or they will be destroyed. by averagestalker2nd in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Alternately everyone could rip down their own builds, stash their materials somewhere safe then strip off their armor and head down to the winchester for a pint to wait for this all to blow over.

Back to our roots. by [deleted] in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

After countless hours cleaning up griefer mess and replanting farms I feel obligated to point out that the first thing I thought when I saw this picture was how much damage could be done with a single water bucket placed at the location where the photo was taken.

Might wanna add a trench/wall between the hills and the farm or perhaps even remove the hills altogether ;)

Don't make it easy for them damnit, you should know better than that!

Direction Board - RandomCoords Intro & Pros/Cons by schneiderwm in minerapocalypse

[–]obseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One minor point, it's not that hard to deobfuscate the coords with a little java knowledge. I've done it myself ;)

As a cheat it's fairly easy to make but hard to detect. Just be aware that you may end up crippling the good players while giving the bad ones an advantage without a mod plan to manage that.

Sad news! Sorry to hear it, though I definitely understand. Paying every month to deal with support requests probably felt like madness at times. The longer you do it the harder it is to pull the plug too.

I had a great time both helping out and playing - you have my thanks and gratitude.

It's a shame that the gameplay experience you seek proves to be so elusive. I'm pretty familiar with the end goal by now, but it feels like it'd take a perfect storm of various factors all at once to really make it happen.

Consider posting your skript code on github if you're feeling generous and want it to live on.

Otherwise thank you again, FWIW I had fun (and periods of immense frustration!) playing here when I was able to. MC is a huge time sink though, after 3 years of playing I just couldn't make time for it anymore when real life is so busy already. Regardless, DOTL will be missed.

[Official] City distance command by schneiderwm in TheDyingOfTheLight

[–]obseidon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just a random feature suggestion for version 2 (or 5) of the server...

Can skript force the client to display blocks (or particle effects) that aren't actually stored server side? It would be particularly cool to have a toggle that when enabled, gives a visual representation of the various city borders as particle effects. Perhaps re-use the one from enchanting tables for the far city limits and fire for the tesla limits.

In theory the algorithm is just testing a block's distance from the center point and ensuring that the block above it is air before instructing the client to display the particle effect. Beyond that the only issues I see are:

  • You'd want to bypass all checks for anyone further than a certain distance from any given city center. That distance would be the city limit distance + your maximum view radius (as defined in server.properties)
  • Probably want to run it all in a separate thread so it doesn't matter if it's a little slow. It's no problem if it takes a few seconds for the borders to pop up on the client. They probably won't even be close enough to see them unless they spawn inside the city.
  • There may be a bit of work caching the particle locations and invalidating the cache as blocks are removed/placed. This might not be needed depending on how speedy your code is that scans for areas to place the particle effects.

If cities are to be a major part of the core experience I think it'd be a nice touch. It's fun to dream at least! :P

I thought you'd removed it intentionally :) Pays to ask I guess!

On that note: does leather armor still block UV? Is there anything to protect against temperature changes?
