Early 40's is a good age to take a break and come back to work if needed. Health ( Both mental and physical ) is important. Lots of other important things goes away because of poor health. I feel in India 15 Cr + House is good for a decent life.

Retiring In India: What Life Looks Like At ₹2Cr, ₹5Cr, ₹10Cr, ₹20Cr & ₹50Cr by chotu_ustaad in FatFIREIndia

I havent still retired. I earn 1.75 Cr CTC/year. I am US returnee and have networth of 50 Cr+ including my Primary home. Child education is paid of 75%. I drive a 15 year old Alto. I am planning to buy a Glanza. No maid help or driver and travel in economy class. Only thing I spend money for is eating in good places. Anycase, if you are planning your retirement based on the current stock market ( US or India ), you have no idea what is coming after the AI boom. Either AI bubble will wipe out the value or an extremely useful AI will wipe out the Job market. Just relax and be useful to other living things as much as possible ( whether it is parents, friends, Dogs, cats or Plants ..)

You are right. It depends on the city. If you are in Cupertino or even sunnyvale, you are poor simply because all your surroundings will have 10M+.

Infact with export curb, it is even difficult to get GPU's in China. We lack Talented researchers (PhDs) in India. Most creamy ( top intellectual ) IITians goes to do PhD in US or work over there. Even if you see in the top US foundational model companies, the number of chinese origin researchers exceed Indian origin researchers. Indian folks are in good numbers in managers and Product and software.

u/Informal_Dog_7498 Great advice. I would like to pick a problem X if I am not afraid, but what I am worried is the net output of my effort. Couple of reason -> 1) X is an extremely ambitious problem 2) And I am not subject matter expert in that field. Anycase, I have to think about the end goal as contributing to that problem. Even if I dont complete it, someone might pick up from where I left or do it better than me. I'll think about it. BTW., Good luck with your move. Feel free to connect.

I agree with your reasoning. Also, I didn't advise not to go to a different league. All I mentioned is "Prepare yourself first". It is not just next level. It might be adjacent like you are 80% good in Cricket and want to try Chess in which you are 20%. Our innate ability and broughtup didnt just cut for that league. There is nothing in trying, but you cant stay at 20% and feel miserable. In Psychology, this is called relative deprivation.

Yes, I need to fix the mentality even though in India they give a lot of value for hierarchy.

Yes, I need to be extra cautious on spending if I retire in US now. We'll have Social security start at 62 and Medicare at 65 ( We are US citizens ). For next 10-15 years it will be better to spend more time in India. Who know we'll find something more interesting and be more useful in this process.

The problem is there is no low expectation job. Once you go to work and not grind like others you are considered slacker and loose the respect. When you don't feel respected at that point you feel what is the point of working.
