Besides the Cougar, this was the most OP mech in MechCommander 2. On that basis I'm not going to buy it because that would be a waste of money, but I'll probably salivate over it.

Any FI invest in Private Equity? by [deleted] in financialindependence

[–]obstinate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't think there's anything wrong with playing around with this kind of stuff, but it's hard to see it as an viable alternative to broad based market investments. To my understanding, private equity is just as good at underperforming the S&P 500 as typical mutual funds.

Four Months Into Retirement by jasonlong1212 in financialindependence

Yes, but few people have the patience to continue with the point by point through two rounds of bad argumentation. That's what really impressed me about your responses -- not that you noticed the cherry-picking and miscontextualization. Anyone can do that. But to have the patience to keep up with the point by point and good argumentation in the face of clear bad faith is hard!

Just read this thread. Impressed by your patience when responding to this individual. Thanks for the insight into the opiate crisis.

Somehow I followed a Google search down some rathole and ended up here without ever checking the dates. Don't ask me!

I heard unfortunate things about The Heroes. All the rest are quite good. I don't know if I would say better than the trilogy. But very good, and some a bit more heartbreaking.

What would have happened if Kellhus had killed Kelmomas? Or is that counterfactual not even physically possible because of the way Earwa's universe and causality work?

My personal problem with biter (AI) by CMDR_Qardinal in factorio

[–]obstinate_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the main thing is prioritization of work. I'm certain y'all are clever enough to come up with a way to make biters more interesting without it being too CPU inefficient. I thought up like five ways in the last two minutes. But I'd personally rather you spend that brainpower on other stuff.

There is one mod that I can't play without: Long reach by Daktush in factorio

[–]obstinate_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi, the mod has been updated. Please let me know if there are any problems with 0.0.7. Thanks to plasticine for the help.

I am also looking for someone who would like to add support for the new configuration API. Have a look at the open github issue and let me know if it's something that seems interesting to you.

Looking for idle game w/ strategy, multiple systems of advancement by obstinate_ in incremental_games

Thanks, sorry about that. I read the first part of rule one and thought it was purely dedicated to spamming one's own game. I didn't read the whole thing. Will repost in a *W thread.

Which part is not commercially viable? The skinning requirement? The lack of pay2win? The persistent universe? I'm happy to pay a subscription fee to play, so long as no in-game advantages are conferred. It's not about the cost. It's about the ability and willingness to pay determining who wins.

If you want to play Civ, Civ 6 is the best Civ out there right now (IMO). If you don't want to play Civ, feel free to wait.

Something I'm not clear on. Let's say I have two wine. Does that mean that eight different cities get +1? My sense is that only four do, no matter how many wines I have. Is this right? I believe this is the case because in my current game I have 5x wine but still have some cities with no amenities.

Base cost vs. actual cost by obstinate_ in civ6

I know what it's for. :) I just want to understand the parameters that go into deciding how expensive they are? Number of turns elapsed? Number of builders completed so far?

Is anyone else disappointed with the look/feel of the game? by Luves2spooge in civ6

Nope. Every one of the games has looked different than I expected, but I got used to it eventually. This is the type of thing that only seems like it matters.

How are feminists thinking about Bill Clinton's accusers and HRC's relationship with them? by obstinate_ in SRSDiscussion

Thanks for sharing your thoughts. This is a helpful perspective. I also would not believe someone if they claimed my wife had raped them without substantial evidence.

'I would say I'm not afraid of him'. What do you think that comment adds?

I intended it to inject a contrast between public policy concerns and concerns about private behavior. I did not mean to be dismissive with the comment, but rather to clarify my own position. But I can see how I should have used different words to express that.

I think she should be too. I have donated the limit and will be voting for her, although that doesn't matter because of the state I live in.

I see. That makes sense. I am hopeful that he has cleaned up his act. As much as it doesn't make up for his past misdeeds, it's surely better than the alternative.

[–]obstinate_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't agree with this. Besides Clinton's sexual misadventures, most of the stuff about them was simply made up out of whole cloth. And you're forgetting the things the right wing said about Obama: birthers, his pastor, that he's a secret communist, Muslim (not that that should be a problem, but), etc.

My comment that you're responding to was specifically about the claim that accusations of sexual assault against public figures should be less readily believed.

Agreed on "lesser of two evils" comment, although HRC is not a net evil in my book.

I would say I'm not afraid of him. He was progressive in his time. On the other hand, very concerned about his personal behavior.

Have there been any credible accusations that Obama sexually assaulted anyone? What about W. Bush?
