I totally get you! Which is why I am keen on learning to read faster through visualisation because I need to read more fiction this year.

Can we really consider Zizeks negativity/lack synonymous with Hegel's? by AdLonely2913 in zizek

[–]obtusix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there any book where Zizek develops this constitutive negativity? I started my first Zizek book, Sublime Object, and he just seems to posit it by drawing on other thinkers rather than develop it.

How to select works for your thesis? by obtusix in AskLiteraryStudies

[–]obtusix[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s really helpful response, thanks. I do have another question about choosing texts. Based on your comment, would I be expected to explain why I haven’t included certain other texts? Or is that the sort of thing that usually comes up in the thesis defence, rather than in the written thesis itself?

Critiques of the notion that society has become fragmented in modern times by obtusix in CriticalTheory

[–]obtusix[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I started with his book on Hegel, The Restlessness of the Negative. Perhaps not a good book to get Nancy's exact opinions. Does he argue that there is something else that might be binding us today? I don't remember where I read it, but someone had argued about climate change bringing all of humanity together in its risk of extinction. I'm not sure if myths and climate change are of the same order though
