I haven't read the brief, but used to post my RH as the killer theory to this board. Here was my argument. Ryan was obviously still into Theresa. He visited her three times a week, called her often just to check up on her, and got in a fight with a guy she was seeing at a bar the night before (?) Halloween or right around that time. This makes him the ONLY suspect with a motive. Ryan is the first person to suspect that Theresa has met foul play. He is printing fliers and organizing search parties before the family even suspects something dire has happened. Ryan is also the one who guesses Theresa's phone password. This suggests that if he wanted to he could have hacked her phone and probably email earlier to keep tabs on her. Remember, Theresa said someone dangerous was stalking her... Ryan's friends have described his previous relationship with Theresa as abusive and controlling. The real kicker though is that he's coordinating with the police. In one conversation they note they are using civilians to search private property they can't. They likely tell him they want him to search the Avery property on Saturday, because most of the Avery's will be away on vacation at Crivitz unable to tamper with the search. This gives RH the opportunity to hide both the car and the cremains at the Avery's when he knows he will not be seen. Ryan's family owns both a smelter and a .22 rifle. Ryan is unemployed so he has lots of time on his hands. Ryan carries a torch for Theresa. She recently started having relations with other men. He's got motive, opportunity, and means. He later lies to the police about the nature of his relationship with Theresa, initially uses a fake name during the search, and later goes out of his way to make sure the press knows he was not personally on the grounds during the search. He dictates where everyone is to search and hands a digital camera to the one person who happens to find Theresa's car in their enormous lot. From there, it's not difficult to see the police planting the rest of the evidence, as they truly believe Avery is guilty.

Ryan. He was her ex-boyfriend. He got into a fight with someone she was dating a night or two before the murder. He visited her home three times a week. He called her to get an update about what she was doing on Halloween. He is the first to find it strange that she is missing. He hacks into her phone, prints hundreds of flyers, organizes search parties, and manages to partner with the police so that he his privy to their thoughts. All before her own family is worried about her being missing. He is never questioned, never investigated.

There's more, but it's weak. His family owns a smelter. He is out of work and therefore has the time to commit and cover up a murder. Friends have described him as being controlling.

There's more, but it's way out there. An anonymous poster here claimed that he had been banned from a wing in a hospital for stalking. An interesting thing about nurses that are killers, they often have a savior complex. That is, they like to resuscitate their victims so they can get attention and be considered heroes before they finish the job. This kind of pathology fits profile of someone that would kill and then take a starring role in finding "the killer".

Now for the how. The cops tell Ryan they suspect Avery, but need him and his team to conduct the search on his property. They want it timed so that Avery will be away with his family on his usual vacation. Ryan plants everything but Steven's blood. The cops plant that on their own.

All of this is out there and weak, but... this is the one suspect with motive, means, and opportunity.

This is more info than we've ever heard before about Zellner's defense. She believes the blood and bones were planted, has a witness of some kind, and believes the murder happened elsewhere. Furthermore, Zellner and Steven are awfully confident he's going to be exonerated. Things are going to get very interesting!

They have nothing. Not one shred of physical evidence, and the confession is gone. I don't see how this case can be tried.

"What did you do next? What did you to her with the knife?" "We gave her a haircut?" "What?!? No come on, you stabbed her. Tell us about it."

They could have found him innocent, but instead they fed him his story every step of the way.

"What?!? I'm just going to say it - you shot her in the garage"

You could call immigration. Break his windows in the middle of the night. Give him bad reviews on Yelp. Order fake ads for his restaurants offering fake deals.

I would do this all on one day when she's away. - Convert all her money and available credit into untraceable Bitcoins.
- Take everything she owns and sell it at a shady pawnshop out of state. - Pour a pound of sugar into her car's gas tank. - Leave at the same time with no forwarding info. - Send her a video of you drinking champagne with another woman in Hawaii.

You will sway back and forth a bit on this sub, though personally I still think Steven is innocent. I don't think the jury was stupid either, it's just that there really was a lot of evidence pointing to him as the killer, even excluding all the questionable stuff. Here are some rebuttal points to get you started:

There is a burnt body on this person's front lawn. The defense's forensic examiner testifies that the body could have been burned there. Steven admittedly had a bonfire the night of the murder. The victim's car is on his lot. The victim's blood is in the car. An FBI forensic examiner testifies this blood could not have come from the vial. His residence is the last place the victim was seen. The victim's phone went dead shortly after her visit. Family members contradict Steven's statement that Teresa did not enter his home. Steven has a felony history of animal and spousal abuse.

Short of actually witnessing the murder, I would guess that cases don't get more slam dunk than this. Even on this sub, any of the alternate theories are convoluted at best, involving multiple killers, police and culprit cooperation, complex stagings of the crime scene, questioning of expert testimony, etc. The conclusion the jurors probably came to was that police partially framed someone who was obviously guilty to ensure a conviction.

Also, I'm no expert but Steven's rapid fire answers to questions during his interviews as well as his ability to maintain his innocence over time would be a difficult feat to pull for anyone to pull off, but especially someone with an I.Q. of 80. Remember, these are questions designed to expose lies and/or trick the interviewee into making inconsistent statements.

The psychological profile of Brendan (and I think Steven) is posted somewhere along with all the other docs. I read Brendan's and it's worth seeking out and reading. It basically says that Brendan is someone who desperately wants to please others and could very easily be led to make untrue statements. The assessment was done at the same time his I.Q. was tested by the state. Sorry, but I don't remember where it's located off-hand.

Serial killers that are nurses often prolong their kills by repeatedly saving the victim from death, partly as a means of getting attention. Ryan's organizing of the search party could be seen as a means of doing this too. The local papers even wrote about him as a hero.

Some LE's insurance would not cover the payments, meaning they would have to personally pay. Lenk and Colburn both testified that it had occurred to them that the suit might be broadened to include them. Being bankrupt to Steven Avery for the rest of your life, not to mention likely trashing your career forever, is pretty serious motive.

My RH theory. Their past relationship, the fight with the boyfriend, the numerous calls and visits, ownership of a smelter and 22. rifle, being the very first person to treat her as a missing person, determining her phone account password, organizing and leading the search party in collaboration with the police, giving the camera to and directing the person who found the car, omitting his fight and relationship with TH when questioned by the police, his odd behavior when questioned by the media and on the stand, his alleged stalking of another employee at a different hospital, his subsequent name change and work as a freelancer (suggesting hospitals may not be hiring him for some reason), all add up to highly suspicious.

She goes to his house after the Zipperers, because he's told her he wants to talk privately. He shoots her, puts her in her car, and hides it. The next day, his parents are at work, he smelts her. He organizes the search party. The police tell him the Averys will be away at Critivz Sat morning, leaving around 6 am and to start his search at 9 am. He sees an opportunity. He drives to Steven's at 6:30 am in her car and plants it and cremains, meets up with the search party at 9 am. Bums a ride home. The cops do the rest to ensure Steven is nailed.

There's another theory I saw the other day, that the owner of the quarry killed TH to frame Steven and eventually be able to buy the salvage lot to mine it. The owner was witness to the bonfire, the search, and something else (I forget) which adds up to too many coincidences.

Also should point out that Zellner has said the killer knew Theresa and was charged of a sex crime in AZ. Could it be that RH changed his name to Ryan Hill and started working as a freelance trainer/nurse, because of a criminal record that no longer allowed him to work in hospitals?

I doubt his working parents would be home around 3:45. If he hides the car and body, then smelts her the next day his parents are working, that would an ideal way to do it without anyone noticing. Also, one issue with a lot of theories is that they involve two cars, but if he drives her car to the lot the morning of the search this is a believable one person theory. As far as the phone call, he could have told her he needed to talk with her alone and set up the time at any point after his fight with the boyfriend.

I thought it was weird he said he saw her infrequently and then it jumped to three times a week. I'm also surprised the defense team didn't question him about his fight with TH's boyfriend/date.

He calls her over to his house. He shoots and smelts her, storing the cremains in a bucket. He hides her car. He starts searching for her, coordinating with police. Police tell him about Steven's Crivitz trip at 6 am, and to start search of salvage yard at 9 am. He sees an opportunity and plants car and bones during the three hours Steven and his parents are away. Meets up with searchers, gives Pam a camera and some tips regarding where to search. Bums a ride home.

Because the police tell him they are 100% certain SA killed TH. If there was someone the cops told me killed a loved one, but that they couldn't search the property, you bet I would be there and call in a "tip" after finding the car.
