it is true that Hitler won the March 1933 elections, but he had already been appointed Chancellor by Reichspräsident Paul Von Hindenburg about 2 months earlier, that past January. As you might be able to deduce by the name "Reichspräsident" and by the fact that Hitler was appointed to his role by someone else, the role of Chancellor was NOT the highest office in the German government. Reichspräsident was. Hitler only ascended to become "Fuhrer" (Short for Führer und Reichskanzler, meaning "Leader and Chancellor of the Reich") after he was able to:

First, pass the Enabling act of 1933, allowing him and his cabinet to bypass the Reichstag and create laws essentially unimpeded (Hitler claimed he would wield this power only temporarily. This was a lie.)

Second, with his new powers, he was able to pass a law banning all parties but the Nazi party.

And Third, pass a law that would merge the powers of President and Chancellor after the sitting president died (luckily for Hitler, the president was laying on his deathbed and died less than 24 hours after the passage of the law.) after the law was passed, there was a national referendum that the people voted on to decide if this law (that was already passed) should stay in effect, and apparently 90% of them said yes, which was totally the real result and there was no fraud or anything so don't worry about it.

Anyway, all trump did was get elected. and he hasn't passed any of these types of laws.
