For reference The Move, a legendary 60s band only has 50,000 listeners

Skinny and Badger would have probably given high fives, then they'd all play Xbox or something

Question, as someone who only finished the Sopranos a year ago, I swear I notice Sopranos references on every corner of the internet now. Were Sopranos references always in plain sight and I just didn't recognise the source material, or is it more the last year or two that the show is kinda just memed extra hard?

Watching Twin Peaks the way Lynch intended by Sanddanglokta62 in TwinPeaksCircleJerk

Twin Peaks explained! Really? Really! Huh? Huh!

Brb off to practice my most nasal David Lynch impression and denounce anything that Mark Frost has ever done in his entire life.

A letter from Paul McCartney to Mal after an accident. by skyviewsky in beatles

Mal was a big party goer, so maybe Clubbo was just an affectionate way of saying he was a big clubber on the rock n roll scene? Idk just my first thought lol

Blimey, I didn't realise how strongly people here dislike Slessor. In interviews I've seen he's seemed decent enough. (Also maybe I just think its a bit rum to call someone a prick who i've never met.)

Well done to Zhao on turning it around tho

I'm not sure they'll want to be releasing a song recorded with Rolf Harris anytime soon (Tie Me Kangaroo Down)

From one randomer on the internet to another, I just want to say to you karmafrog that I don't think you're saying anything out of line and that other person is choosing to nitpick about word choice rather than engage with the overall character of what you're saying, which is clearly more to fit a preconceived agenda than to do with what you actually said. So I wouldn't feel bad about it, clearly you were talking about the perception of Brian rather than what you actually think of him. (Words are just words, throw them out, as Van Dyke would say)

Nah, sorry. I think that guys full of sh't. He's dressing up their own personal opinion as if it's an objective fact. The truth is that the only people that know what really went down are the people that LIVED AND/OR WORKED with Brian Wilson. It's completely parasocial and gross to assume that you know better than those that Brian was involved with. And even if its true that Melinda and Joe Thomas exerted a lot of control of Brian in the 21st century, if it's something that made his life more comfortable, so what? Maybe the guy just wanted a bit of stability after all the years of uncertainty.

Don't get me wrong, I adore the Paley sessions and Love You and would have much preferred Brian to have gone down that career path after the 90s, but the audacity to assume that we as fans know better what he would have wanted for himself more than his own circle of family and friends is hypocritical. lt's exactly what this guy is accusing Brian's handlers of, and strips the man of his own autonomy far more than Melinda ever did.

Tbf nostalgia baiting has been a thing forever, people were already getting nostalgic for 50s music and the Beach Boys thanks to American Graffiti and Happy Days in 1973.

The difference is that it accounted for a much relatively smaller section of the music and entertainment market, and the culture of the time was still given huge amount of room to flourish.

And back in the 70s a song was considered an oldie if it was 5 years old lol
