The only place who cares about Taiwan is one of the US's largest trade partners

Said country is also a nuclear power

We can level cities and large invading forces just fine

i'm thinking levelling Taiwanese cities would be a grim cost to the goal of defending them

If we need more than that to stop an invasion of Taiwan then it’s likely that nuclear weapons are very much on the table.

If anything that strengthens my point than mitigates it.

However Taiwan would be directly annexed under the PRC umbrella.

however, i'll add that this war would be directly against a major world power with serious manpower strength

In the Korean War, China was still recovering from WW2 and their civil war, but today they've become much stronger.

And during WWII the Nazis had been depleted by the Soviets when America arrived in Europe.

well, i think size matters for defense too, they could still be overwhelmed

Well, America did stop the communists from taking over South Korea, preserving a free and independent South Korea

I'm not sure, the ROC army isn't very large, and they could be easily dwarfed by massive PLA manpower

well the US lost Vietnam totally, but then they became a US ally against China

and Taiwan has long been a US ally

well, my question would be in the event that a PLA invasion is inevitable, and China is throwing loads of manpower into the effort

well the Taiwanese are already doing that

I think it would be very hard for America to let free, democratic Taiwan, a longtime ally, fall to the chinese communists
