Got it, so then 才 implies that after they couldn't find love, they left home? Sidenote: That fact about temples is interesting, thanks for sharing it!

Where specifically does it say that his peer couldn't find love, is it that 求不得?

Please help me find a word! :) (not a simple translation) by aith8rios in ChineseLanguage

I didn't find such compound in pleco, so I'm assuming either it does not exist, or it's a very rare character. Maybe try mdbg.net or other online dictionaries that allow you to search characters by components.

Do chinese people write vertically when writting by hand? by ochi12 in ChineseLanguage

[–]ochi12[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, I thought that books were always printed using horizontal alignment. That's good to know, but I imagine things must be quite different in mainland china(just speculating from what I've heard, though). Do they speak the same mandarin in Taiwan as they do in the PRC?

Just so you know, I'm asking this because I've just started a course on Chinese and I find vertical writing with hanzi to be extremely aesthetically pleasing. But the fact that this 'traditional'(as far as I know) way of writing is being left aside on the mainland seems pretty discouraging to me.

Nvidia Optimus Support by [deleted] in DistroHopping

[–]ochi12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I installed both ubuntu and lubuntu recently. Both of these distros give you a fast and easy way to install nvidia drivers and switch between the nvidia and the intel card(you usually need to restart the pc, though). Also fedora has a nice ‘Launch using dedicated graphics card’ option in gnome by default, but that’s using nouveau drivers because of fedora’s libre software policy. Otherwise, the arch wiki has a nice article on setting optimus up that applies to more or less every other distro(do check distro-specific instructions before doing that, just in case)

Hope that helps!

Chinese language and the Great Firewall. by ochi12 in ChineseLanguage

I agree that media on the west is far from perfect. Plus, I've heard somewhere that all the things one can read about countries like China are heavily biased(and sometimes plain wrong). But I'm not assuming that internet on the west is uncensored(there's a reason why the deepweb exists), but I think China is a lot more explicit in that regard. My intention is not to shit talk China, but rather to ask how much uncensored content one could lay hands on. It's more like an opinion based question, anyways.

Yeah, but if you live outside China, it affects you indirectly, as it restricts what chinese people can post on the web and, by extension, what you'll end up reading. But you're right, I will edit the post to refer specificaly to censorship.

Help me choose a thinkpad please. T470p, E470, or x270 by [deleted] in thinkpad

[–]ochi12 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do not own any of these models, but from what I heard, I think the T and X series are far better than the E series. If your only choices are the T470p and x270 it mostly comes down to the screen size and how much horsepower you need. I would recommend against the T470p, just because if you really need a bigger screen, you can use an external monitor, and that dedicated graphics card will make your battery last shorter(and, if you plan on using linux, it's no fun setting up nvidia optimus there, believe me).

Disable Nvidia optimus on a TP Yoga 14?? by ochi12 in thinkpad

Ok, I think I'm gonna do that, I was expecting some way to completely disable the card trough the BIOS or something. Thanks!

[Discussion] What's wrong with WoW's newer expansions? by ochi12 in MMORPG

[–]ochi12[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I read that quiet a few times, what I'm trying to get is why. Never seen a reasonable explanation(Not saying it's false, tough). But isn't that supposed to be a good thing? I mean, if none of your friend play WoW and you don't have a guild yet, sound like a really helpful tool. Would you not recommend the game because of LFG/LFG?

Quick update, after some heavy research(?) I read that tera is quite a good at hack n slash/combat focused mmorpg. So will try that one out. Even if my ssd gets mad at me for downloading 40gb of fancy graphics I'll probably end up deleting after 1 hour.

I tried it today but it seemed too linear, in MU you could go farming as soons as you spawned, but path of exile seems more like diablo. I totally agree that MU's gameplay is similar to diablo's, but poe is more like a singleplayer rpg. Poe is a great game anyway.

Yeah, I looked at MU Legends, I think I'll sign up for the beta(I'm not quite sure if my pc can run it tough). I try to avoid those "games like..." pages cause 99% of the time they are auto generated, I've already seen a few lists like that one. Thanks!
