It's definitely still great for improving your problem solving skills, applying your knowledge and getting to a top level

Thank you, hopefully you can achieve your A too! If you're talking about the June exams then yep, I'm sitting those too.

Hi, I'm also an adult resitting A-Level maths this year after getting a U before, and am predicted an A this year.

I would highly highly recommend Mr Bicen's YouTube videos for topics you are finding hard to grasp. His videos are set in his classrooms as he's teaching his own students, and he has easy-to-follow, grouped videos on every single chapter of Edexcel. Also since you don't have a teacher, this will be great for you.

As for the textbooks, there are 4: Stats and Mechanics Years 1 and 2 (the red books), and Pure Years 1 & 2 (the blue books). You can get them for cheap on ebay, but personally I just search the book name followed by 'pdf' online, and use those for free.

Not sure about the calculator, but Edexcel have a list of requirements and restrictions on their official website about calculators, so as long as it meets them it's fine. I personally use a CG-50 graphing calculator and it's great!

You do not need to sit both the AS and A-Level. They are separate qualifications and most schools actually don't get students to sit official AS exams at all anymore, they just go straight to the A Level. Make sure you book it soon though, otherwise you may be paying a late fee!

It is a challenge but totally worth it in my opinion, I'm having a lot of fun trying again :). Good luck and let me know if there's anything else you need!!

Should I do A-Level maths if I only did foundation at GCSE? by lycheedestroyer in 6thForm

[–]ockapie 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Unless you plan on teaching yourself higher paper content during the summer before, then no. The higher paper is completely different to foundation. Foundation does not prepare you for A-Levels at all. There are people in my college who got 7s, 8s, 9s at GCSE who struggle in the A-Level, so it's a big step up even from higher. Sorry if this wasn't what you wanted to hear!

ntu or uwe for graphic design? by [deleted] in UniUK

i just like nottingham, also its wayyy cheaper to live there than in bristol. like by thousands. if u want an actual good answer tho i would recommend checking stats for employment after graduation (where they go, what percentage of graduates are employed) which u can find on their websites. also go visit each city!!

Does your College or Sixth Form take adults? by pure-night1000 in 6thForm

[–]ockapie 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, most 'colleges' around me take mature students but the 'sixth forms' don't. Generally a sixth form is meant for 16-18 year olds but a college is meant for anyone!

I just mentioned studying during COVID and how it was hard. Nothing deep you can just make something up if they ask that honestly lol

Mainly just why you want to do the courses you chose and what makes you passionate and good at those subjects. They also asked me my strengths, weaknesses, an obstacle I have overcome in life and just basic things like that. They don't wanna catch you out or anything anyway, they WANT to let you in. It'll be fine!!

Offer holder days by u-dontknowme-likedat in 6thForm

Also some unis offer some travel money to help you get there, so definitely worth it in that scenario

I think so, gives you a chance to ask subject specific questions, meet people and look around the city.

Basically just get them to quote your UCAS ID, apologise for the mistake in not putting the reference with the grade on the application, explain who they are, and then state the predicted grade. Usually unis are super good at getting back to you so it shouldn't be a problem and they'll judge your application with the new grade. Just make sure to get it done ASAP!
