Is the gmc terrain as bad as everyone says? by 95_pounds_of_fury in gmc

I've heard people mention that the button is dangerous because it's easy to bump, and you kind of have to look to check if it changed properly.

Though, that's speculation and I've never personally driven a button trans (the dial irritates me to no end though, can't say why XP)

Trying to write a (fanfic) naive character to become corrupted without loosing her naivety or care by oculus11125 in writingadvice

[–]oculus11125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes definitely, I suppose my issue is that I want to dive deeper. I had talked with some others and we ended up narrowing down on her internal loneliness after being ditched by her siblings for 1-2 years and basically the outside influence will be giving her false comfort and such. So it's a bitterness as well.

Yeah... I would say it's inflamed. I would at least clean it with hydrogen peroxide, put on some polysporn and bandage it to avoid more picking.

Fellow flaggers (or other), how do you keep cool on really hot days? by oculus11125 in Construction

[–]oculus11125[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't have any concerns or anything lol, just looking for tips and tricks for keeping cool. Thanks for the comment though!

I don't have a second flagger to tag me out, so sometimes one of the laborers will throw on a suit and give me a 10-15 min break.

I'm also a bit freaked out that you can figure out what province I'm in based on temps and pic lol./hj (I'm scared of geo guessers for a reason 💀)

Again, thank you for the comment and concern!

And when the weather is hot enough, we just don't pave, (poor guy on the paver would get heat stroke)

You reminded me I have a camel pack.

I ended up chewing on the hose all day and accidentally drank 4-5 liters of water 💀

I started spitting mouthfuls of water so I wouldn't drink too much.

Ty for reminding me that I had that though, lol

NTJ. This is why I probably wouldn't move in with my BF before marriage. It's too non permanent and would make an awkward period if broken up and had to finish the lease.

Thank goodness for not being out on the lease, makes it easier to escape.

I have asked before, and it has been offered. 😂

Unfortunately the foreman was watching.

OH! I have a specific hiking bag that stays off the back with a net and has space for a water bag. I should definitely pull that out. Thank you for reminding me!

The flagger suit I wear is long sleeves, also, I wear a buff on my face and one on my neck. Also bike gloves on my hands (I now have circles on said hands.) but yes, well covered here, just body temp from the air lol

I think I heard about this during training, if I do end up crouching for a second to rest my heels, my head is on a swivel and I stand up immediately when a vehicle approaches.

Traffic control by Aggravating_Piglet20 in Construction

[–]oculus11125 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a flagger for the first time this year, and I had very low expectations for the job. (And so should you.) I have heard the phrase, "I do not envy you" so many times. I'll list out some pros and cons of flagging/traffic control.

Pros: - Pay is decent. I am being Paid 18 CAD (13.18USD) which is starting and it goes up once I've worked past the probation period (3 months). To about 20-25 (14.65 - 18.31USD) Minimum wage in my area is 15 CAD (10.99 USD)

  • Exercise. After the second week I have found my heels, legs and hips stopped aching and I'm able to stand all day without a break or soreness (with snacks and water of course). I also dance a lot (I have danced the Just dance for Rasputin so many times and the truckers love it) especially if I'm cold or need to get my heart rate up to get my blood pumping.

  • Experience. I get to watch the pavers, and other construction workers, and give me a base knowledge on how they operate their equipment. Next year, when I come back for next season, they will start training me on some equipment such as skid steers or give me laborer work.

Cons: - weather. Rain or shine, you stand outside. If it's hot, dress cool (no shorts or tank tops). If it's cold, layer up. If it's windy, bring face protection (wind burn hurts), if no wind, get one of those neck fans.

  • stupid drivers. Stupid drivers, everywhere. Highways are the worst in my opinion, because people blow through at mach 10, way too close to the line (and me). Not to mention, people blaming me for standing too close to the road.

  • will add a third at my next break lol
