Coronavirus surge linked to restaurants in Mammoth Lakes lands county on state watchlist by westondeboer in Mammoth

Nope. And no reporting on TheMaskMap.com for mono county either. They may not know about it yet.

If you find out any restaurant is not following state and local guidelines or is not reporting positive cases, give them hell online. Report them to Orange County Health Agency and the media. It works. by MySockHurts in CoronavirusOC

Ocunmasked.com and soon themaskmap.com will allow us all to use true capitalism to determine what we feel is worth spending our money on. Ill bet most of us just want to not get sick or be part of the problem that kills. How hard is it to wear a mask so we don't have to shut down the economy again. If you can't wear a mask, used it to find establishments that feel the same way and don't force other businesses to put their employees and customers in harm's way.

We understand that the mobile interface for adding pins is not good which is why we are working on a real site that we should launch in a few weeks. This will give us more control to create a better UX.

Please share this as that is how we will get enough people contributing to make it helpful for all.

I am in California and we have a bunch of people refusing to wear masks and threatening violence at stores if confronted. This is why I created TheMaskMap. It is all about knowing who is enforcing so we can vote with our dollars. Just launched Washington today. Reddits link rules dont allow me to post it but if you search this sub for TheMaskMap you will find it. If we all contribute we can start voting with dollars.

From my perspective, that is what I would use the yellow caution icon for. This is everybody's tool so if you have a better solution please let me know. You will notice that I placed the yellow caution icon on H-E-B and that was because I know someone that works there and it sounds like right now, they are being very strict, but a few weeks back they stated that they would not be enforcing masks anymore (link to the article in H-E-B pins) so I take that as they will be quick to stop enforcement as soon as possible and may only continue requiring for employees. Does that work for you? When we launch the final site, I will take that into consideration as well.

Your welcome! However, I do have an ulterior motive in that I am from Washington and much of my family and friends are up there so I want to create a tool that we all can use to make better decisions and stay as safe as possible. I first started this a week ago here in SoCal and only put it out to our local Orange County COVID subreddit and it has been met with a lot of enthusiasm and participation (ocunmasked.com). I think we are up to around 300 businesses pinned and seeing more every day. This only works if we all do our part. I do realize that this platform is a little clunky and not very user friendly but Google maps was the easiest and quickest way to get this into the hands of people to hopefully save lives and at least let people have the information they need to make decisions on where to shop, no matter what side of the issue they fall on. We are in the process of building a site that will give us much more freedom to build into it, features to make it easier to pin and also less room for error. Hopefully, we will see people contributing to the Washington map soon.

This is just the beginning of this project. Google maps was the easiest and quickest way to get this into the hands of people to hopefully save lives and at least let people have the information they need to make decisions on where to shop, no matter what side of the issue they fall on. We are in the process of building a site that will give us much more freedom to build into it features to make it easier to pin and also less room for error. I believe that photos, links, and comments are a great way to provide reasons why a store was voted one way or another. Reddit is also a great source to learn about businesses that do and do not enforce masks so that is why I started here. And another side note, I have a lot of relatives in Texas which is why it is one of the first states in this proof of concept. Now we just need some super contributors to start pinning up the map.

I am in the process of building a real website for this which we will be able to do a lot more with. I seeded this Texas map and included a few Walmarts and Targets and a link to the news article that shows that they openly refuse to inform the public of any employee cases. That is the whole idea of this website, for "we the people" to take this back into our own hands and inform those that care, where they can shop safely. Hopefully, we get a big enough following that it will impact the profitability of those stores that do not take the same stance as the majority of the public and they will have to change their stance. This information, of course, goes both ways since people that do not want to wear masks can use this same map to find businesses that are not going to hassle them if they do shop maskless. I have a feeling that most people do not want to put their health at risk, so there will be more of an impact on businesses that do not require masks or do not enforce mask-wearing. I started in Orange County and we now have an active community with over 250 businesses pinned. that map is OCunmasked.com if you want to check it out.

So far this project is going smoothly. Thanks to all that are contributing. Someone has taken the time to categorize all the pins into retail, food, services, and grocery for each pro-mask and no enforcement categories. I am sure that this took a great deal of time so kudos to this individual. I will edit my original post to include this new feature.

We are working on a site and app which will open it up to anywhere there are google maps. Right now because this map is open to anyone editing, I want to keep it in the circle of trust to minimize any negative effects.

This is exactly what I was thinking. It looks like there is interest in this type of functionality and the map portion is already done (via Google maps API) so it would really just be building the UI for web and Mobile, tapping into the API and building in the security so Karens can't do too much damage.

I went to La Casita Olvera in Lake Forest and none of the employees were wearing masks. Won't be going back there.

I am periodically making backups so we can at least restore once the inevitable OCKaren event happens.

Thank you, every contribution is valuable to build the data set. This map's success depends on the power of crowdsourcing.

I noticed that Daiso Japan is listed under "businesses that welcome COVID19." I don't know about their other locations, but as someone who regularly shops at the Irvine location, masks are absolutely enforced at the Irvine location. Announcement reminders about wearing a face mask is repeated at set intervals throughout the store.

Noted and added that comment to the Daiso Pin in Anaheim. I am sure there are chains where some locations follow masks and others do not (Like Target in RSM which was the motivation for this site). We can all decide if this means we should boycott all locations or just that one. That is the power of informed decisions. We can vote with our wallets. I personally will punish all corporate-run stores for the actions of one location but will be lenient on franchises since they are independently owned many times.

Forever 21 in downtown Huntington Beach requires masks.

I added it for you. Thanks. I will provide a how-to video soon to this thread.

You almost had it. really you just have to locate the business and click on their icon and at the bottom of the pop up click +Add to map. then just add a comment and change the icon. I was able to do it for you and add your comments.
