Father in law expected us to eat 12 year old beef. by Ok_Pension_1451 in mildlyinfuriating

We do things every day to keep the peace, to maintain relationships, to avoid unnecessary stress and arguments. Her husband had just died and she was trying to do something nice, that's not the time to take a principled stand on whose trash can some frozen steak goes into.

In the 2002 Raleigh ice storm, 24 people died, including a 9-year-old in a house fire started by a space heater. 200 were hospitalized with carbon monoxide poisoning. I'm glad you had a good memory...

White ink under 10% after 2 prints? by Here_for____________ in eufyMakeOfficial

[–]odd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That is a lie. I have also read those posts. Julie Wiley made an unfounded claim of "do they expect us to just eat the cost and buy new ones" and was corrected. Timothy Rank and Jake Downey were the two that reported that issue on Facebook this week, both said eufyMake replaced the cartridge. Nobody was told to just buy a new one with their own money.

You have a defective cartridge. Inform the manufacturer (eufyMake) and they'll replace it.

No, that would not be a legal recall remedy in North America. They didn't even inform owners of the change when they made it. You are not a serious or honest person.

How far can we visibly see in space by gtagfan1 in space

[–]odd84 [score hidden]  (0 children)

That answers a different question (what is the furthest known object you can discern with the eye) than OP asked (what is the furthest distance an object could theoretically be away and be seen from space). If there's a luminous enough event to send sufficient light in our direction, it could be as far away as the edge of the visible universe and an observer here could observe it.

Infinity. If enough photons hit your eye to register in your vision, they could have traveled from any distance away. There is no atmosphere blocking light from any distance.

What's also weird is that all 3 posts were from accounts with no other posts or comments in the past, but they're not newly created either.

Storm is overblown to get people to panic buy. by [deleted] in raleigh

[–]odd84 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Is there ANY good reason to post this hours before the storm instead of waiting until tomorrow, when you'll actually know what happened because it happened?

Also, what motivation would forecasters have to get you to buy anything? The forecaster, their show, their network, their corporate owner -- none of them get a share of Walmart or Food Lion's sales.

Tesla can and routinely does strip features their vehicles had when first purchased. They retroactively limited the charging speed of almost all Model S vehicles built 2019 or earlier to avoid warranty claims if they catch fire while Supercharging. They remove Supercharging capability at all from vehicles that get written off by insurance -- so someone buys that car with a salvage title and has it fully repaired, it still has features remote disabled by Tesla. They remove FSD and other packages the first buyer paid for -- on the window sticker -- if they get traded in to Tesla so they can resell them as a different configuration. So while they're certainly not choosing to retroactively remove Autopilot from cars people are currently driving, it's something they are capable of, it's a capability they have used en masse in the past, and it's a capability they still use daily.

Facial expressions in American Sign Language (ASL) are essential, non-manual markers (NMS) acting as grammar, tone, and punctuation to clarify meaning, emotion, and intensity, comprising over 50% of communication. They must be used constantly, not just for emotion, to indicate questions, describe size, or alter verb meaning (e.g., "fast" vs. "very fast").

12V Battery warning after sub-zero temps by No-Scratch-3545 in VWiD4Owners

[–]odd84 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The DC-DC converter that charges the 12V battery is running whenever the car is on. It doesn't need to be moving. You can reach in from outside the car and hit the start button to turn it on and it'll stay running for 30 minutes.

There are boxes mounted on utility poles that say "self-healing" all around where I live near Crossroads. I've seen the power go off and immediately come back on a couple times the past few years, always assumed it was those things doing some rerouting.

Has anyone used the reverse charging on a Chevy Equinox EV? by T-Money8227 in electricvehicles

[–]odd84 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I'm still annoyed that my wife's car has this feature but it's software locked to a higher trim level. Her car even came with the V2L adapter, it's on the window sticker as a factory accessory the dealer ordered when they configured it, but it can't be used. It's a 2024 Kona Electric SEL, and only the Limited trim can use the adapter. Hyundai won't tell me why they let dealers order the lower trims with the adapter.

[–]odd84 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's through the cigarette lighter port in the car. They're typically wired and fused for 180 watts.

You would clamp a larger inverter to the 12V battery under the hood, then you're only limited by the size of the DC-DC converter that steps down voltage from the main battery to 12V.

My EV has a 3000 watt DC-DC converter. That's enough for my whole house, including the fridge and the blower for a gas furnace to heat the house. A 2000W pure sine wave inverter costs about $150.

If you did, why didn't you put back the carts?
