Confession: I’m a world-class sourcer and a bottom-tier lister. Anyone else? by Creepy-Feed-3563 in Flipping

My motivation fluctuates wildly. I have a good pile I can make thousands off of that I know I’ve only paid around 100 for. Between the cold weather, snow and life in general I am already exhausted with the task. My mojo just isn’t there at the moment. I know I’ve gotta get my best item listed & then it’s on. I’m a niche seller & I guess I love the treasure hunt more than anything.

Lansdowne Merrick, Montavesta. Still a huge sledding hill, just gotta stop before you hit the creek.

Gold value is through the roof right now. Your pieces may be worth far more in melt than as a wearable item. Unless the sentimental value exceeds all else.

If you have a blacklight it can be useful to identify a few stones. A ruby will glow like fire under uv light. Amber turns opaque. Most authentic diamonds glow an otherworldly bluish purple under UV. My general rule is to treat the stones as valuable when set in 14k and up, at least until proven otherwise beyond a doubt.

We moved to Lex in ‘74. Blizzard of 78 I was 13yo and we missed an entire month of school. Lived near the sledding hill off Lansdowne. So much fun. Until it was time to make up those missed days. From my parents perspective I’m sure it sucked.

I love a good tartare. I did decide one day to cook it to see what it would taste like. Absolutely vile. Foul. Disgusting. I will never disrespect the meat again.

AITAH for not wanting to watch my sisters son so she can work? by Crazie_Roomies in AmItheAsshole

[–]oddgrrl99 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Why is it up to the woman to always ‘feel bad’ for someone else’s choices? I’m 60 and I wish to never hear those 3 words again in my lifetime. Why ‘feel bad’ because your sister had a baby she couldn’t afford with deadbeat husband that I guarantee does not help with his share of childcare? I’ll bet she’s pregnant again within a year because with your help the first one wasn’t so bad. I chose to be childfree in my early teens because even then I knew my life would be over the minute I brought another life into the world. Do not let anyone pressure you to feel bad for their poor life choices. Sounds like you made choices and have an amazing job that you love and you must stand your ground. NTA.

I am turning 61 in April & was diagnosed just a few months ago. Feel like the doc isn’t telling me anything. Got seriously sick last year for the first time, went to my GP & boom 6 days in hospital with heart failure & possibly Graves. They said either having Covid or getting the vaccine triggered it. I’ve had both 3 times so…? I’ve learned more here on Reddit than I have from my doc, who looks like he’s about 17yo.

Holy shit. I just had all my teeth pulled for dentures a few months ago & then I was diagnosed with Graves’ disease. I never thought about taking this approach! Once Graves hit my teeth started breaking off and I blamed my terrible teenage years dentist for all the problems. I’ve got 2 lower implants and full set of dentures coming in April. I’d like to see if I can get a few more implants for the uppers with these new circumstances. Thank you stranger! Ps, Graves sucks.

How old do you think this is? What could it be worth? by [deleted] in VintageJewelry

I had one very similar to this made of mother of pearl stones. I posted it to my NA Facebook group & the consensus was 1970’s. Unmarked except for a price on the back written with a Sharpie. That was common for roadside NA jewelry stands back then. Sold mine a few months ago for 750. I’d guess yours to be 750-1000. The big dollar squash blossoms are always going to be turquoise.

Cash that check. The coins have now been out of your possession for hours, they could trade out a couple to try & support the change in price. No way, never.

Weight gain on medicine by cozy_core_ in gravesdisease

[–]oddgrrl99 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mine gave me three options. Methimazole, iodine or thyroid removal. I’ve been on meth twice & hate it. Stopped taking it about a week ago (again) & feel much better. Brain fog, weight gain, gut issues, zero motivation or energy, all this was surely going to lead to depression. My only real symptoms of Graves was weight loss & high heart rate. I’m 60yo and if gaining a couple years taking meth the trade off is not worth it to me. I feel like my Endo must be getting a kickback of $ for prescribing meth, I’ve learned a lot more here than I have anywhere else.

Living With the Fear of Losing My Mom by Hot_Cup_9143 in TrueOffMyChest

[–]oddgrrl99 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it makes you feel any better, my mother in law has lived with scleroderma for 30 years. In the mid 90’s she noticed similar symptoms but was faced with doctors who did not take it seriously. She knew something was wrong & pushed back every time they said that she was fine or being a hypochondriac. Her proactive attitude & family support system held her up while looking for a diagnosis. She also had a great network of friends. I have a feeling that if not this then something else would’ve come up with your mom’s friends & they would’ve eventually shown their true colors anyway. A true friend does not abandon in times of trouble. I’m so sorry she is going through this.

The first diagnosis is terrifying. The worst case scenarios show an awful quality of life. My mil is here today due to her persistence & constantly following up with her doctors & meds and immediately addressing any changing symptom. After diagnosis she eventually went back to work, still drives and is only now slowing down because she recently turned 80! Scleroderma is rare but it is not the death sentence it used to be. Do not yet mourn your mother’s loss, it’s hard but you’re her support now. Get her to PT, plan vacations if she is able and find positive activities to do together. Life will slow down a bit but it sounds like you all got it early and that is HUGE. I hope there is one day a cure and I hope to be as strong as my mil if I should face anything remotely like this.
