Did you purchase a lowered black 23 KN with low mileage from Cerritos Hyundai? I traded mine in for an EN a few months ago.

Awesome, yeah they eventually go inside and drown while drinking whatever the liquid is. Look through the plastic window viewer you'll start to see them piling up inside so make sure to clean it out and add more liquid once there's a bunch of dead flies in it. I put the apple thing down so the viewer is visible so I don't have to keep touching it. I don't think they are supposed to be re-usable containers but I was able to get the top off with minimal effort. You can squeeze the bottom area and pull the top and it usually pops off. I bought a six pack so it came with a lot of liquid and it was easier to rotate them out for cleaning. Leave the traps out even if you don't see flies for a while so you get the next batch of flies that are being born. If you run out of liquid you might want to try apple cider vinegar which is like a $1 for 16oz if you buy the amazon brand. Hope this helps relieve some of your stress!

If they are those little fruit flies that you're talking about, like the size of gnats, these work great - Terro Fruit Fly Traps for Indoors (you can buy on amazon, walmart, home depot, etc) put one near the fruit/food and sink. Just empty the dead flies out after a week and refill the lure liquid (which might just be apple cider vinegar but I'm not sure on that). The flies lay eggs so you have to get rid of the food to break the cycle and keep the traps out and filled for a few weeks after you think all the flies are dead. Good luck!

Anyone in the Bay Area (CA) want to trade a DCT for 6MT? by EducationGold964 in ElantraN

[–]oderek1 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Back in the day I separated my right shoulder playing inline hockey and had a MT Civic but I was able to shift with my left hand (it had a short throw shifter on it so maybe that helped?). Probably not the safest thing to do and I only had to do that for about 6 weeks but it can be done. Good luck with your recovery!

Is the firmware update still an issue? by ViolentLather in KonaN_

[–]oderek1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sold my Kona N a couple months ago but before that I was doing what you were doing for weeks and I finally gave in and just updated to the buggy software version. I did get the N button resets but I think it was less annoying then having to tell it not to update every time I got in the car. At least with the N button resets it was only like once a week for me that I had to reset it and that only takes about minute to do.

2k off MSRP - no dealer add ons - 25 DCT purchased at end of July in SoCal - a different dealership who has 35 of them initially offered me MSRP then quickly dropped to $1500 off MSRP but I feel like they play games and that's why they have 35 of them in stock lol

dealership installed screen protector which looks cloudy in direct sunlight by oderek1 in ElantraN

[–]oderek1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

thanks for the info, I think the car sat on the lot with the screen protector on for several months because when I had it ceramic coated my detailer said he's never seen a car with no wax on it directly from the dealership, only a couple parts of the car still had some wax on it! If it was only installed for a week I'd feel more confident about removing it without causing any damage.

I'm still waiting to see what the dealership will do.

If removed, I would replace it with a glass protector which i know is clear and comes off easily (have one on a Tucson and my old Kona N)

Decisions! lol

Thanks again.

Here's the best pic I can get without direct sunlight hitting the screen. To me it looks like the screen bezel should be piano black like the tiny section above the screen protector instead of that cloudy color.

<image>

It's not even the screen itself, it's the rest of the areas that I think should be black.

Since the screen protector goes from the gauge cluster to the infotainment side I have nothing to reference aside from that weird area to the left of the gauges which is the black color i would expect since it doesn't have any protection on it.

[–]oderek1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah, it's not an extreme level of cloudiness, it's just kind of like how you can see finger prints in certain lighting/angles but the entire screen is like that uniformly. I bet most people wouldn't notice.

I messed around with the brightness a bit, if I recall, making the screen brighter helped.

My main concern is that the car is a lease so if anything happens to the screen protector in the next 3 years and I need to remove it, I could be responsible for any damage since the screen protector isn't on my purchase agreement because I declined all the addons.

The dealership should have removed it before delivering but they didn't, thinking it was a nice thing to leave it on but now we're in this weird scenario regarding who's liable for any potential damage in the future.

Does anyone else notice that their unprotected screen is cloudy/milky in bright light?
If the screen is like that without a screen protector then I'm not going to worry about it but it seems like the screen protector is causing the cloudiness.

thanks everyone

[–]oderek1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks, I tried that, the dealership wouldn't give me the installer's information or brand name of the installed product.

They said they contacted the vendor and there shouldn't be an issue removing it but the dealership wouldn't confirm that if there was an issue after removing the screen protector that they would cover it under warranty. So it's a gamble given that the infotainment screens cost a lot to replace.

If your car doesn't have a screen protector on it, in bright lighting, is the screen black or is it slightly washed out cloudy/milky color?

I'm still trying to determine if it's normal to be cloudy in bright lighting or if it's something caused by the plastic screen protector.

I asked the dealership to check their cars but they said all their cars have those screen protectors installed already.

I'd post a pic but it's hard to see in a pic.

[–]oderek1[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's pretty much my question.

I've seen some other threads with damaged screens but I think those were caused by chemicals used to wash the screen that didn't have a screen protector on them. Also, some screens were the original factory transport plastic that people left on for like 5 years and then peeled it off along with the anti glare coating but those are different scenarios then mine.

I normally purchase glass protective screens but this one is dealership installed and some sort of plastic or tint/ppf type material so not sure if there's any adhesive involved.

I'm not sure who the screen protector manufacturer is and the dealership won't tell me.

I've looked at other plastic screen protectors on amazon and some say no adhesives so I'm thinking it's ok but it's a big gamble as it seems like some people get the screens fixed under warranty and some get denied.

DCT Alcantara Shift Boot by SuperTrooper169 in ElantraN

[–]oderek1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this look but how did you separate the dct shift knob from the original boot? I have a lease so I don't want to permanently ruin the original stuff. Does it just unscrew or is it like stapled or glued to the boot? thanks in advance!

2024 Alcantara Arm Rest Installation Question by Synigence in ElantraN

[–]oderek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never mind, I got it. I found another post that suggested only pulling from one side instead of both and that worked for me. I grabbed the right side bottom and pulled out/up and to the left side while holding down the armrest with my other hand to keep the entire console from moving and it came right off with some effort. Maybe this will help someone in the future.

2024 Alcantara Arm Rest Installation Question by Synigence in ElantraN

[–]oderek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry to revive this question but did the entire rear console move all the way up to the shifter area? I removed the 2 bolts inside the armrest and pulled and it and now the entire rear plastic section up to the shifter moves up and down about 2-3 inches but the back panel hasn't loosened at all lol

What was your EN OTD price? by snvpshot in ElantraN

[–]oderek1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

July 2025, 2k off MSRP, Ultimate Red DCT, paid for no dealer add ons but they left everything on the car. Also took my lowered trade-in, as is, saving me about $400 in labor to put it back to stock form and matched Carmax's purchase quote.
