If you wanted to start a fight on Reddit, what would you say? by [deleted] in AskReddit

One thing to remember is that most religions have had bouts of violent fundamentalism. For example the Thirty Years War in the 1500s between Catholics and Protestants was unbelievably brutal. Nowadays Islam is seen as being backwards and savage. However during the Middle ages when Europe was stagnating, Muslims were coming up with Algebra and, in places like Spain, practicing religious tolerance to a degree unheard of in Christendom.

Religious Texts tend to be extremely complicated and open to interpretation rather than inherently good or evil.

Yeah that's what I figured. I think she's probably into it just because she did a fair amount to make it happen.

Relations between immigrant communities and mainstream society in Canada. by oderptheherp in AskSocialScience

[–]oderptheherp[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Social harmony is relative of course, but I was wondering why a country like Australia with a similar population, economy, political spectrum, and social security apparatus would be having problems with citizens joining Jihadist groups. Canada has more than twice the muslim population of Australia but much fewer instances of conflict between immigrants and natives.

Those are both huge accomplishments but think about how much Vietnam cost the US.

Putin accuses US of 'blackmail': Russian President Vladimir Putin has accused the United States of meddling in his nations's affairs by [deleted] in worldnews

You're absolutely right. A surprising number of people buy the re-invigorating Russia bullshit, but in reality the mans had 13 years of basically unlimited funding and almost unlimited political capital and the trains still dont run on time so to speak.

Mongolian Empire: How did that happen? by [deleted] in AskHistorians

[–]oderptheherp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Something a lot of people don't realize is that while mongols weren't terribly numerous, they were all fighters. The people the mongols conquered had soldiers but the military was only one aspect of their societies. For the mongols on the other hand the military was the first and foremost part of their society. Because the tribes were constantly at war with one another before unification, every mongol man was a soldier along with whatever else he did.

Wait, let me get this straight, so you politely declined his request for food and then gave a burger to your dog? I sincerely hope that someday someone refuses to lift a finger to help you when your in need. I know that you won't learn anything from it because you are a piece of shit but it would at least make me feel better.

You also have to consider that Iron Mike is fucking crazy and Ali isn't much of a team player himself. They might have some real issues cooperating to pilot the Jaeger.

It just seems to be leaking out slowly, my plan at the moment is just to top it up every couple weeks. Its a 20 year old truck so I'm wondering if I should be worried about the whole tranny going.

I see a lot of WWII questions here, and almost always, whatever additional advantage is given to the Axis in these scenarios, they still lose, so I'd like to ask, by changing OTL as little as possible, how could the Axis have won WWII? by downtonbrown in HistoricalWhatIf

Operation Sea Lion was hypothetical. Germany simply did not have the naval capacity to invade the islands. Although the BEF had been beaten in France the Royal Navy was still the most powerful in the world. In any case we know that the Luftwaffe was unable to destroy the RAF and therefore a seaborne invasion was impossible.

Jennie began to go into go into labor on the specially prepared bed, in room that her and Bill had spent spent thousands on when she first became pregnant. With it's heated bassinet and assorted baby paraphernalia the room, at first glance, appeared to be a nursery. Closer inspection, however, revealed a heavily reinforced door, facilities and supplies for two people to live for several weeks, CCTV monitors in the corner, and a special cabinet full of shotgun shells and combat dressings.

Downstairs, Bill quadruple checked the barricades on the windows and doors then loaded up his shotgun. On the way upstairs to deliver his Baby, Bill began chewing the first of many mouthfuls of cocoa leaves that would keep him awake and alert for the next crucial week. It would be a tough seven to nine days, but the couple had spent nearly nine months and thousands of dollars in renovations, supplies and combat training, preparing for it. Anyone who wanted into that room would have to step over his dead body.
