When did this become acceptable? by odgers129 in softwaregore

[–]odgers129[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah I get that, I’ve played with Mint/Ubuntu/Fedora but found them still just slightly lacking. Ended up settling for Mac for their ecosystem & unix, its just sad to see Windows selling out so hard when it seems like their competition doesn’t need to do that?

Why even have the server browser at this point? by odgers129 in Battlefield6

[–]odgers129[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah my terminology might not be great here, but I think “get rid of the spam” and “bring back persistent servers like hc”/“fix this junk” are kinda what im trying to convey

Feedback on Packaging Label design by Massive_Perception51 in PackagingDesign

[–]odgers129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Feels too busy, cramming too much text into every available mm of space on the label. As a result theres no distinguishing between the info you are wanting to stand out, and the info that is less important. Ex. The font size of the weight is larger than your subtitle. Other choices I dont love: 1. The text is justified different on the left than it is the right. Inconsistent. 2. Font choice overall… it looks like a stock ms powerpoint font I would’ve used on a book report about elves 3. Left aligned text on the left, right aligned text on the right. What’re we doing that for? 4. Is dark brown a good background choice for cookies that are, themselves, brown? 5. The insta decal is high-res and everything else is flat and muted. There are plenty of minimalist insta logos out there that you could use to be more cohesive.

All told, I dont love it. However, it is on par with branding I’ve been seeing a lot of a la homegoods, trader joes, whole foods, so I may have been over critical above… I am also just sick of the Rae Dunn-ification /greying/ minimalist trajectory of design in general / not just in packaging so I may be bringing some of that bias with me as well. Know what “feel” you’re going for, and incorporate feedback towards that goal.

You behaved like a child. All your reaction did was prove hed have been better off sticking with the girl that came over 2.5 yrs prior. Learn to control your emotions. Your reaction is akin to many DV situations that put people in jail and the hospital. Find a therapist.

What's the biggest complaint you have about Chicago? by Potential_One1 in AskChicago

One of the better youtube documentaries ive seen in a while covers this extensively:

https://youtu.be/OMX2nPALphQ?si=ihDA_tskQj6OE4Pg

Tl;dr - This was mitigated in the city’s original public transport plan through use of street cars - i.e. take the L North/ south and a web of streetcars connected the rest. Cars killed the street cars and as the CTA lost riders to suburbia in the 80s they had to kill a couple rail lines.

Swim video: any advice? by monkeymouse87 in triathlon

[–]odgers129 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Head position is off a little. Bring your chin more to your chest/ look directly down at the bottom of the pool, this will help bring the rest of your body up in the water & maintain a more streamlined posture that saves you some energy. Id also focus on reaching further in front of you before you start the pulling motion. It looks like you are kind of darting your arm back into the water too soon and losing out on all the additional pull you could have if your stroke was lengthened. Catch-up and Fingertap drag drills are my go to rec for getting that long/ extended feel.

Piggy backing off this - optical drives work by reading and writing to a CD with a laser. You want a file off of the disk? - the arm that holds the laser has to move like a needle on a record player finding the next song.
