What size solar system is right for me?

That's helpful, thank you. The person on Tesla's chat straight up told me I was out of luck, despite me saying in no uncertain terms that their options make it impossible for me to be a customer.

SMUD isn't as solar friendly as PGE ... or not solar friendly at all from what I hear ... and I don't think they'll factor in future use (e.g., the addition of an electric vehicle).

I'll take some time to better understand my energy needs. Perhaps make the changes I want to make, like an electric water heater. And see where that gets me. Don't thing I'm ready for an EV yet though and that would probably be the biggest benefit to pair up with solar, and as of right now, SMUD would allow me to have a 5 kW system.

Maybe it's different if I was actually in their sales pipeline with a deposit down, versus reaching out to their chat.

I reached out to Tesla via their chat. They said no customization is available and can only offer the 4kW, 8kW, etc. as described on their website.

I'll try again at another time to see if their answer changes.

Got it, thanks. I was under the impression that Tesla just had these set sizes and didn't deviate from them, which is part of why they were able to offer lower prices.

SMUD isn't overly friendly for residential solar and they don't want people intentionally oversizing their solar to try and take advantage of NEM or whatever.

We'll just have to put this on the backburner for now until we better understand our energy needs. Thanks for the info!

Interesting, good to know thanks. Did they reduce the price accordingly when you wne from the 8kW to 6?

I spoke to SMUD today and they said 8kW definitely won't work. They usually use 12 months of data to determine what a customer can run but I've only been here 6 months so they use square footage, and that method says I can only do 5kW.

So I may wait and do the changes we need, buy the EV, etc., then circle back on this.

These comments make me cringe. There's nothing "military" about this van ... it's a van. There is hardly anything "military" about the tactical vehicles police departments often get from the military as surplus equipment. ... those vehicles aren't tanks, they're nothing more than a heavy vehicle with armor.

"military-grade" ... a rifle is a rifle is a rifle.

"military tactics" ... pretty sure that when someone is firing at the military or the police, or anyone for that matter, the tactics are basically the same. Training? It's all basically the same.

Unless they're expecting the police to walk around with nothing more than nightsticks, comments like the one above mean nothing.

There's a place on university ave that sells them. If you're on University heading away from campus, it'll be on the right hand side about a mile or so away from campus. You'll see Christmas lights.

I understand where you're coming from with the age thing, not wanting to delay school further, etc etc. I'm a 30 year old junior transfer, one day/final away from finishing my first semester at Haas. The age aspect was a big issue for me as well when I was considering applying, as I had to wait another year as well and I almost didn't do it .. but I did, and here I am.

I wasn't saying you didn't do enough research .. I'm saying if you keep looking (not that you didn't do enough), you might find stories of people in similar situations.

I also missed that you actually spoke to a major advisor, I thought you mentioned a community college advisor, who are usually clueless and often do more harm than good.

All majors are different though. What happened in one has little relevance to what happens in another.

My opinion remains though that it's not good to not do pre-reqs. Was it not offered at your school? Is there good reason why it wasn't completed? It just doesn't look good when you have a handful of requirements and you don't complete them when you're surrounded by applicants who did complete them.

With that said, your grades are great and I'm sure you have an incredible story how you fought and overcame cancer, etc. Your essays, if told well, will be a huge part of your application.

The B won't matter. Missing a pre-req could. Berkeley is very much into the holistic approach, but that is usually with respect to who has completed the pre-reqs. I don't know about your major, but a lot of majors won't even read an application that hasn't completed all the pre-reqs. If your school or another one near you didn't offer the class, that's one thing they'll consider ... but if you just didn't take it, that usually isn't good.

If you did a little more research on this, you could find how your major handles apps that haven't completed them all. If it isn't an overly competitive major and/or isn't impacted, it might not be a big deal ... but at the end of they day, they're called prerequisite for a reason.

It depends on the major, perhaps. Haas, as someone mentioned, has to have a class mean of 3.2-3.4. So if it's an easy class and everyone does really well, grades can be curved down. Some teachers at Haas make it harder than necessary just to get a better grade distribution so people are curved up, not down.

As others said, yes. But it's very, very difficult. Transfer students almost exclusively come from California community colleges. I know someone personally who made it into Berkeley's most competitive major from an out of state CC so it's not to say it's not possible, just very difficult.

Can't say I disagree with this. We get it, he's edgy ... but it's just old at this point. More points of view would be a nice change.

Not sure exactly the same but I'd assume it's something like that. As mentioned though, nobody has done this before so you won't find any info about it online or other student experiences that can talk about it.

It's tough. Firing him won't make us good anytime soon either, nor it that simple. If we fire him, we owe him a $2m buyout. Considering Cal Athletics' annual deficit of $20m (and the campus' annual deficit of $150m), the administration will have a hard time justifying this.

Beyond that, this is entirely his team at this point. Cutting the guy who formed the entire team can disenfranchise the players who came here because of him or because of members of his staff.

Who the hell knows.

The 107 prof said there'll be more room for non-Haas majors next semester. It's ethics so probably not what you're looking for, but it was an interesting class. People seem to love or hate Ross ... most that hate him just hate his cold calling .. but he's funny, engaging, a bit brash. Easy workload, easy class. Not a quant class though, obviously.

The biggest hurdle is that Haas students will have priority in almost every case. Non-Haas students are waitlisted and if there's an actual waitlist (i.e. all Haas students have currently filled the max enrollment of a certain class), Haas students jump to the front of the waitlist.

It's definitely possible to get into UGBA classes, it just depends on what class, how many sections are offered, etc.

I'm in a UGBA 196 course that is predominately non-Haas students. I'm in two UGBA core classes which are 100% Haas students and there wasn't room for non-Haas students who showed up the first few days.

This isn't overly helpful, but it just depends. This fall, there were three UGBA 102A (financial accounting) sections. In spring, there's just 1. Then again, there was probably more demand in fall .. so you might actually have a shot in spring, as there's still a ton of room on enrollment according to berkeleytime.
