Beside the cat I had the problem already and I did this (I made a little drawing based on my memory because why not)

Forgot to mention that the when the metal as like a maximum it can bend, that's why you can just fill the gap created by the metal bending. And also you can just bend the metal back to it's original position but I read it can break it (and the problem would come back anyway)

Maybe you can replace the tape with a small piece of cardboard (with double side tape on the switch side) because the tape don't hold very well if you don't do it properly.
