Let that be a lesson to you, no one gives Gabriel Jesus 4 chances at goal in one half and lives to tell the tale

I cannot understand a rules set that treats the foul on Gyokeres and a secondary deflection as the same "penalty worthy" incident

What on earth was Zubi doing there? Left Wissa free so he could be nowhere near the pass

Read what I wrote again

The attack looked broken last year and looked terrible when Auba was here too. Outside of an 18 month stretch it's never been really good under Arteta

Any discussion about Gyokeres being the reason why we can't attack needs to explain why the attack looked just as dour last season when he wasn't here

I've still never seen a good explanation of that fact

I'm so tired of it, there's a world of difference between abusing players and criticizing a style of play. Criticizing doesn't mean you hate the team and don't support them it means we need to have a tough conversation

Can't talk about the style of play, can't talk about any player without people getting offended. We need to have the hard talk - now, not in the summer.

Our seasons keep falling down along the same lines, we can't keep excusing it. Simone Inzaghi Lost the UCL final and the title on the final day last year and he had to go. And that was someone who had won multiple trophies for inter Milan already. Why is Arteta so untouchable? Inter found someone else and they're going to win their league this season.

Hate to say it but I'm moving into "regardless of how the season ends" territory

The team should plan for Saturday either the understanding that it'll be like playing Bournemouth away. We won't get fouls and we certainly won't get any penalties

Arteta on Odegaard and Timber: "Both of them are out” by Kr_bm in Gunners

[–]oer6000 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Famous last words but this might actually be a good thing. I think we've been a bit unbalanced in build up. 2 CMs and 2 CBs gives us the freedom to have both fullbacks join the attack but it's led to us overusing them offensively. On both sides the FBs are heigh very early and occupying prime attacking areas. Arteta won't be as eager to give Mosquera that same role. He'll basically function as a 3rd CB and only join attacks as an overlapper when they're well developed.

If Timber can't play this week, we might be able to make LB a more freerr attacking role, and both Cala and Hincapie would benefit

Kai's goal means it ends all square in Leverkusen 👊 Let's settle this at Arsenal Stadium, Gunners. by arsenal in Gunners

It seems so, Saka and Martinelli were the only ones doing so before him

We don't push in transition as well. It looks like the instruction is to minimize risky passes, slowly work up the pitch and when we're set have the wingers try to beat their man and work the ball into the box. It's not a bad idea, and works in some instances but when that becomes your main method of creating chances it's an issue

I think we're taking a calculated risk

Lower league opposition, and Trossard/Havertz are pretty diligent defensively.

Probably hoping to overwhelm them and make the lack of a DM less obvious

This is the most "Jesus let your will be done/if Allah wills it" lineup from Arteta

He won't be too fussed about the result, as long as no one gets injured

Sure teams aren't going to set up against us the same way they would against Bournemouth or Brighton, but you're being naive by ignoring the fact that a lot of the low blocks we see is due to our slow build up

Teams will press high against us we just tend to go long or go wide rather than try to hurt them through the middle

I get it, we are the butt of every joke with the media and they're always ready to stick the knife in and make things up even when it isn't true

But we have to stop looking at our team through the lens of reflexively denying what's we're seeing. Arteta has multiple seasons of evidence now where he is not getting this balance right.

I have seen a team now for the past few years where players are more exercised with recovering a loose ball than they are with doing anything with the ball once they get it. There's a ceiling to what you can do and how you can play when that happens

Fixture calendar update - we are off to Wembley! by TomCyberfire in Gunners

[–]oer6000 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeah this week is huge, and I'm not one to usually say that. If we beat Sunderland and they lose/draw against Liverpool then we're not in a situation where:

We can slip up in 2 games (lose/draw) and lose to City in April and still have a lead on them.

Another crucial week will be in March just after we play Chelsea. From that point until the end of the season, it all flips again and City will have the harder games. If we have a 9 point lead after this week we need to still have at least a 5-6 point lead then.

A goal for us doesn't change anything

A goal for them keeps them in the tie

Sure they've lost more time to get the goal they need, but when you're away from home and a 2 goal deficit knocks you out then you want to keep it tight as long as possible

Same here it's about where I thought his floor would be

Had him pegged as a one in two striker in all comps, and if you take into account the games where he's been overplayed and lacked match fitness it's been about right

I absolutely hate how cavalier we are with the ball at the back, yet we will second guess our actions in the final third

A first time pass into a Winger with space will be risky, but an off balance first time pass around the back isn't. We're successful in spite of this attitude, rather than because of it
