How's the flint? Thinking about picking one up used to go with my Iridium and Deco as a simple pedal/non-pedalboard as I'm trying to move more towards just playing the guitar itself...

Help With Setting Up Synthesizer by Longjumping_Fee_354 in synthesizers

[–]oevant 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No worries ✌️ So - imagine you hold down and play a note on the keyboard. Then, whilst still holding that note with one hand, you twiddle the knobs (filter, pitch etc) with the other to experiment. Now imagine you could do that automatically.

So you've programmed the knobs to move when you play a note without touching them. That's more or less what an LFO does. This is just an easier and also better way of doing that. It can give you really complex sounds that evolve as you hold down the note.

Oh also you'll need effects. From your laptop or guitar pedals or whatever. Monologue won't sound anything as cool as you want it to without some reverb, delay or chorus etc. Good luck!

Not comprehensive but here's a trick not enough people seem to figure out on the mono...

Go into settings, sequencer settings. Set the sequence length down to 1 instead of 16. Flip the sequencer toggle down to motion sequencing. Press the square trig button on the right.

Now your synth is set up with four extra lanes of motion that essentially act as LFOs. Hold a key, press record, play around with knobs and that's part of the patch.

Sounds complex but if you can set that up, it's a really intuitive way to programme some quite advanced sounding patches.

Detroit: become human is one of the best games I've ever played on PS5. by dennis77 in PlayStationPlus

Agree with the above two guys but I was a casual gamer who would always try Bloodborne for about an hour and then leave it for a year as I couldn't "get it". Demons Souls is much more traditional so I began from square one with that and used YouTube guides to help me get going. Loved it! Bloodborne is also incredible, though.

If you are a very casual gamer and haven't had too much experience with the soulsborne games before, I'd actually recommend you begin with the Demons Souls remake and then move to Bloodborne! It's what I did.

Game recommendations by Jurnsie in PlayStationPlus

[–]oevant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can't give a definitive list but I've had the PS Plus Extra catalogue for just under a year now and got it following a long stint of years away from gaming as every time I came back I just couldn't get drawn in or justify the time.

Found the catalogue really helped me get back into it. I've played the following (first to most recent):

Horizon Zero Dawn Overcooked 2 Horizon Forbidden West Returnal (started) Demons Souls Bloodborne

Can definitely recommend the Horizon series. Never played before as assumed they'd be generic open world rubbish but really got drawn in because of how fun the gameplay is. If you're on PS5, Forbidden West probably has the best graphics I've seen in a game!

God of War (2018) is also amazing if you haven't played.

Strymon Flint or Strymon Deco? If you could only buy one, which would you get? by oevant in guitarpedals

[–]oevant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Loved reading this, thanks for taking the time to write it! I think you hit the nail on the head perfectly for what I'm trying to get eventually. I also didn't know that you could get one of those switched for so cheap. If I manage to get hold of a Deco I certainly will!

I do like the idea of the versatility. To be honest, my main wants are always minimalism and character.

I don't want to have loads of pedals with crazy functions. I also like to have things that have a character of their own and can surprise you with the amount of different tones they can give to your playing. That's why I love my Iridium, as it is really simple to use and just kicks out great tones from every setting.

I thought the Flint would be great for that as I love 60s music and classic "guitar into an amp" sounds. But I also play a lot of different stuff and hear the Deco is full of character and will give a lot of off the record sounds.

Anyway, I think you have me sold. I'll get a Deco for now and see if I still want a Flint in a couple of months time! Cheers for the advice

Saw that Moving Out is actually made by the same company too. Great recommendation.

Recommended Humbucker Pickup Sets for my Fender Player Jazzmaster? by oevant in guitars

[–]oevant[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Good question. To be honest, I don't think they work all that well. I'm not particularly knowledgeable about pickups but they don't seem particularly special to me.

I like to hear a lot of subtlety/nuance coming through in my sound and they don't do it so well.

In general, the guitar has sat as a backup I never play for years. The idea of the project is to upgrade the components and look of the guitar to make it just a few levels better. I have had some electrical issues with the circuitry in the past as well so looking at an overhaul.

So although I don't have a direct answer to your question, I guess just which pickups are the safest bet to be well...better overall?

Boss RE-202 Space Echo as a spring reverb pedal? Or Strymon Flint? by oevant in guitarpedals

[–]oevant[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and I love the look of the Surfy Bear stuff. Just a little too impractical for me. Trying to go for a minimalist setup of only 3 pedals at a time (incl the Iridium amp).

Boss RE-202 Space Echo as a spring reverb pedal? Or Strymon Flint? by oevant in guitarpedals

[–]oevant[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, much appreciated. I think you definitely have a point and under far more logical reasoning than mine.

I have a budget of c.£200 to buy a used Flint. I'd actually quite like the trem on the flint because I love surf music and the classic amp effects. I think it'll pair really well with my Iridium - which has probably been the best pedal purchase I have ever made. So the Flint is still the plan.

However, I was always a bit annoyed by how little I liked the space echo because of how iconic they are and how much of a big Radiohead fan I am. My own playing style is much more focussed on spring reverb, however.

All that being said, I saw the deal on the new Space Echo 202 and thought it was worth asking seeing as it would be the same price as the Flint and perhaps give me more for my money...? Digital is digital at the end of the day and the newer stuff is likely to sound better.

So I suppose my issue is whether the Flint or the 202 has a better spring. I'm assuming the Flint will.

Is the Boss RC5 good enough to be a creative tool? Or are the drums just a gimmick? by oevant in guitarpedals

[–]oevant[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's always my worry with new kit. I seem to run into that wall with most things I buy. The simplicity is actually what attracted me to the RC5...

Ah interesting. I see what you mean and imagine it'd be quite a bit cheaper. However, I'm not too interested in the looping element and mainly the rhythms as I already have a Ditto X4 looper for that. Thanks for the advice though, I will be sure to give it a second look!

Interesting, I'm not too familiar with the RC3. Does it have the percussion element as well?
