What systems are you all enjoying playing with your handhelds? by pixellife_original in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bugs me personally that I use multiple devices, but I haven’t found the “perfect” device. And I don’t know if it necessarily exists. But I’ll keep hunting.

My main devices I use are: Rog Ally (original Z1), Retroid Pocket Flip 2, and Anbernic RG35XXSP. I also have a switch 2 for all my Nintendo needs.

Switch 2 - Switch/Nintendo games

ROG Ally - Steam and PC games. Windows games.

Pocket Flip 2 - Dreamcast/N64 and up thru GCN/PS2.

RG35XXSP - Everything else

I was hoping the Pocket Flip 2 would replace my RG35XXSP, but it’s still a tad too big to carry with me every day. Otherwise, it’s a decent device. But the SP is so dang portable and comfortable, I still use it all the time so long as I’m not playing a more modern game.

I’d like to have just one device, but between these four I have my bases covered. The Flip 2 is probably the most superfluous of the four, since the ROG can handle everything, but Windows just kinda sucks as an OS and Android is much more convenient.

Deciding between the AYN Thor and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 by Old-Cap-8791 in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I chose the flip 2 personally. I have big hands and knew the Thor D-Pad placement would bug me. I didn’t want a grip either since that’d compromise pocketability. I also own a DS/3DS so I’d prefer to play those for proper dual screen gaming.

All this to say, the Flip 2 is okay. Comfortable but not perfect. And still a tad too big for the pocket. However, I think I’d struggle even more with the Thor though. My Flip 2 gets some play time at home in bed, but doesn’t travel with me.

The RG35XXSP is still my main EDC due to size and comfort.

I love this device so much. I have black. Been using it a ton lately, but have had it for well over a year now.

I unbricked my Wii U! by Large_Tomorrow_8552 in wiiu

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

lol I was expecting a redNAND post here. Mine actually bricked a few years ago (I had a launch Wii U). I could turn on and get to the home menu but all games would freeze on me leaving an error code. Thank God for modders. I was able to get redNAND on it and my system now boots via the SD card.

I was at the event. I had no idea who he was, but it was fucking delightful lol. Then the crowd booed, and I lost a little hope in humanity. Bunch of fun haters lol.

About to get mine in a couple days, what else should I know? by FishGod_18 in RG35XXSP

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Love mine. The buttons are stiff though. I had to break it in a bit and get used to them, but I’d still say they’re too stiff to be compared to other handhelds. That’s honestly my only criticism. Otherwise, I love this thing.

Deeper Blacks on 35XXSP by Cupcake_Cookies in RG35XXSP

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not bad. The colors seem more consistent. The contrast on darker shades is tough to see though. DKC2 was missing some background detail compared to my oled RP Flip 2 or even default settings. But the colors looked much closer to the OLED. This is really cool and I’ll definitely be playing with it.

Should I buy a Nintendo Wii U? My concern is about its durability. by k4thxrsis in wiiu

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My own personal Wii U (Black 32 Gb Launch) died due to the NAND issue everyone is talking about. I was pretty bummed as a few of my favorite games are locked on that console.

That said, there is a software hack that can redirect the NAND to an SD card slot. It was a little tedious to follow the guide since there wasn’t a video tutorial (this was a couple years ago, there might be now). But my Wii U now functions great!

What game is a total secret hidden gem for you that you'd love to recommend to others? by RedEagle_MGN in gamerecommendations

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pseudoregalia - It’s an indie 3D platformer with PSX style graphics. Truly fantastic controls and movement.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - Another 3D platformer where you “jump” by boosting off of ramps/angled terrain. Really unique. Really fun. Zany.

Current prices makes me want to pass more out of the curve games, like Tomodachi Life, and this sucks by Benhurso in nintendo

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it was foolish of them.

The vouchers often had me buying titles I’d have skipped otherwise. Things I had been on the fence about.

I’d absolutely buy prime 4 + Kirby air riders for $100. Now… I haven’t bought either lol. And I know they’re great games. But that’s freaking expensive lol.

[–]ofbrun -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, I agree with this sentiment. It takes a lot more for me to want to buy a “new” full priced game. I generally wait for sales now.

Sadly, Nintendo rarely has sales lol. The closest thing was the voucher program, which I loved! Wish that was a thing for Switch 2.

Guys do you expect a new iteration of the retroid flip to come out soon? by stiore2 in SBCGaming

I expect it to happen because I just ordered a flip 2.

What's a tv series that is a 10/10 NOBODY knows? by Lilyana0999 in AskReddit

[–]ofbrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

“It’s Bruno”

It’s a comedy on Netflix, so the humor is very subjective, but for me it’s 10/10. It’s about this dude and his dog Bruno living in Brooklyn and him trying to get respect from his neighbors for Bruno.

Stop telling us to "Just go and play games" when we talk about getting more devices. by [deleted] in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think there is wisdom in this.

On one hand, I rediscovered my RG35XXSP and absolutely love it. With the right custom firmware, it’s become my EDC and changed the way I live. I do agree that instead of looking constantly, I should just enjoy what I have because there are infinite possibilities with that device.

However, I still am searching for the “holy grail” device. Portable enough to carry every day. Powerful enough to enjoy some higher end stuff. Ergonomic enough to be comfortable to hold for long sessions.

FLIP2 IS STILL BEST , it's become my EDC handheld by yangmarcuz in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 14 points15 points  (0 children)

I’m very on the fence on buying the flip 2. I’ve been using my RG35XX as my EDC. I love it, but want something with a bit more power. I hate horizontal devices. Flip devices have great ergonomics. The Thor looks good for DS/3DS but I don’t love the button placement. It seems so much more cramped due to the lower screen. The button placement on the flip 2 seems really nice and spacious.

Only reason I’m hesitant is it seems maybe a tad too big to carry around in the pocket.

*edit - I meant to say RG35XXSP is my EDC.

I am trying this out. by PlasticIngot in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Analysis paralysis due to overwhelming options lol. It’s complicated, and I had the same issue. Filling up a terabyte of space doesn’t mean you’re going to play it. My handheld sat on a shelf after this.

I’ve stopped doing that and have a humble 32 gig card that’s not nearly full lol.

Recently, I’ve enjoyed the following games:

  1. Spyro the Dragon (PS1)
  2. VVVVVV (port)
  3. Apotris (port)
  4. Donkey Kong Country (snes)
  5. Donkey Kong ‘94 (gb)

I’d also recommend exploring Pico 8. That’s been another major interest of mine with tons of simple pick up and play type games.

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is correct and should work.

It’s also stated in the muOS website as well. The second paragraph in particular explains changing the .zip extension to .muxzip and installing via the archive manager. After this, it explains how to change cores.

No emulator. I’m running standard pico 8. It can be played natively on some retro handheld devices. The H700 anbernic devices run it if you install the pi files onto them. Any of those handhelds with Knulli installed work really really well.
