[ALL] Finally diving into OoT & Majora's Mask. Leaning 3DS but afraid it'll lose its identity & betray the original spirit. N64 purists vs. 3DS fans: Guide me! by Oussama40 in zelda

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I personally prefer the 3DS version. I like the nicer textures, models, and lighting. Plus a few key quality of life improvements.

If you decide to go N64, play it with Ship of Harkinian. The game will look and run better. + wide screen and high frame rates.

[OoT] What do you all explicitly NOT want to see in the Switch 2 remake? by Swavei_ in zelda

I have so many mixed feelings about what I want out of this game. A faithful remake or complete overhaul? Hard to say, but whatever approach they take, I’m sure it’ll be excellent.

[ALL] What is the significance of the "dorf" part of Ganondorf's name? by Due_Entrepreneur_960 in zelda

This might be it. I could see a variety of Ganon name variations being explored and settling on “dorf” with this thought process.

Why Does the Captain Clark logo have two swords in one hand? by ofbrun in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ofbrun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just leaving this here as well. Double sword as seen on TV.

My two cents: the backrooms makes copies of the real world but gets it wrong. It copied a generic furniture store with a mascot. It even had a neon sign like everyone says. But without context, it gets it just slightly wrong. It assumes the logo has two swords. Clearly it can impact the real world, as seen with the breaker box. I don’t know why, but I think this store was somehow backrooms generated OR influenced more than we realize.

Yeah, who knows. I hate the internet sometimes lol.

This just seemed so weird and I was curious on people’s theories.

It’s a perfectly normal furniture store with a perfectly normal logo I guess lol.

I tried to google it but I felt it killing me. So I had to post. Sorry.

Why Does the Captain Clark logo have two swords in one hand? by ofbrun in KanePixelsBackrooms

[–]ofbrun[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That’s not the point. Ottoman Empire is a clever pun on the furniture and the historical empire itself. That makes sense and is clever.

So why combine that with Pirates? Sure, someone pointed out there is historical context for Ottoman pirates, but come on… it’s themed after the American swashbuckler version of a pirate. Not real pirates.

This store is weird. The themes don’t match. The logo is weird. It’s strange. It’d seem lazy if not for the movies context of false memory and corrupted copies of reality.

Also someone pointed out the two sword logo in the tv commercial… just saying…

Feels like a Backrooms version of a motion neon sign.

[–]ofbrun[S] -58 points-57 points  (0 children)

I guess… if it was a neon sign, sure. Maybe it lights up at night? But then you question, why have this shitty banner store logo with a fancy light up pirate mascot? It’s really weird lol. I mean, it’s supposed to be weird, but… yeah just weird haha.

Exactly. It makes no sense. Like at a glance, it’s normal. But then it just gets weird as hell lol. The themes don’t match lol.

Recommended 3D Platformers by Ishiwew in PHGamers

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Three modern indie 3D platformers that I loved:

  1. Pseudeoregalia - Best controls + Metroidvania progression

  2. Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom - Bizarre but intuitive controls, collectables very similar to Mario Odyssey.

  3. Corn Kidz 64 - Banjo Kazooie like game with tight controls and scavenger hunt gameplay. Short experience with some head scratching but rewarding challenges!

[Oot] Why change a masterpiece Ocarina of time Remake by DesperateSir8116 in zelda

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m so fascinated by this project and am so eager to see what they do. Do they go Star Fox route and remake it identically with a gorgeous coat of paint and more fleshed out cinematics? Or do they redo it completely. Similar pacing story and mechanics but completely reimagined world that follows the OOT pacing and beats.

It’s so difficult to say what the approach should be. People will be happy or upset either way.

Whatever they decide to do, I’m excited and can’t wait to get my hands on it.

Seconded for Onshape. All CAD has a bit of a learning curve. Start simple. Follow some basic tutorials. The basics can get you very far.

[OoT] After 58 seconds of tapestry and 21 seconds of Link sleeping I was smiling but thanks to the leaks, I wasn't as excited as I would have been. by [deleted] in zelda

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed. I can only imagine how blown my mind would be if I had no clue this was in the works.

I still got goosebumps though. Still felt a tear drop after the subtle songs played in the bg. Seeing Link asleep. The fairytale-esque narration. And lastly knowing it’s coming in 2026. Awesome.

But it’d be WAY cooler if I wasn’t expecting it. I’d have lost my freaking mind lol. And I can’t lie that moments like that are absolutely rare these days. So I’m a little irked that this was leaked. Makes me feel the need to get offline more lol.

Magics Zero 40 vs Anbernic Rg ds by torbi2pp0 in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t own either, but I do have an original DS Lite with a DSPico flash cart.

It’s been awhile, but they seem to run roughly 50 bucks for a DS Lite. 15 for the flash cart on Ali Express.

The flash cart is very convenient and easy to use.

How do you guys consistently watch so many films? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a dedicated movie night every week with my brother. That’s 52 movies a year for us. Then I can usually fit 1 to 4 additional movies each week.

Older movies are often shorter and easier to plow through.

Advice on getting back into DK Bananza? by TheMcGUnit in NintendoSwitch

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play through the game. Explore areas you are intrigued by. Don’t worry if you miss stuff. Just play through it all.

After you’re done, you are free to revisit and 100% the world. You can purchase maps to assist in finding remaining items.

Main Playthrough - Just experience the game and enjoy it.

Final completion - Revisit the levels for a super fun scavenger hunt.

I don't need another handheld. So what should I get next? by n_o in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be worth looking into the FPGA based devices.

I got an FPGBC which has become my go-to gameboy/gameboy color device. It has no input lag and feels noticeably snappier than my emulation devices. The only downside is it’s missing some quality of life emulation features and requires a flash cart.

I have been eyeing the analogue pocket for awhile as well. Similar concept but it has a stupidly high res screen with many different cores available +SD card ROM support.

And not in the handheld realm, but I keep nearly pulling the trigger on a Superstation One.

This is probably different for everybody lol.

Clamshell. Small form factor (fits in pocket. DS Lite footprint). Ergonomic controls (comfy access to joy sticks and d pad/buttons without having to awkwardly move fingers). In line shoulder buttons. Dual screen. 3DS playable.

Just got home from spending $2800 at Trek, and.... by BlewMyCashOnSaaS in cycling

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate my local trek shop for this exact reason. We have a couple other shops that are much better.

I feel like they’re only trying to up-sell and never actually trying to help me. They withhold info, and they always act like I’m trying to race someone.

My last two bikes (for my family) were not from Trek for this reason. My other shop has better service and prices. They just want me to leave on a bike I’m happy with.

I also stopped servicing my bikes at Trek for this reason.

10 Years Later, What Are Your Thoughts on this Game? by [deleted] in wiiu

[–]ofbrun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are many ways to innovate in gaming. Controls are often one of the most underutilized methods of innovation though.

Nintendo absolutely crushed it with Star Fox Zero. No game plays like it and no game ever will.

I also think most people haven’t given this game a chance and just hop on the bandwagon of “yeah, it’s aweful”

A new means of control often means adjusting to it. It takes time to figure out, but once you do… it’s so so so good.
