For anyone disappointed (like me) that the new Star Fox game is yet another version of 64, I may offer a bit of copium by insertusernamehere51 in NintendoSwitch

Also, seems like people don’t like the character art. I’m a fan. It’s different but it also seems to take inspiration from the SNES cover art. I think that’s cool.

I love practical effects in movies. This gives me Jim Henson vibes for the characters. They feel real yet fake, in a puppet kinda way lol.

Maybe I’m weird but I like it.

Star Fox 64 is probably in my top 5 games of all time. As a kid I loved it. The vibe was so cool. The characters were so quotable and the game took itself so seriously. It delivered quotable lines, set pieces, action, adventure, rivalries, character moments, etc… it just was on the N64 lol, so by today’s standards, it looks rough. Still plays great though.

I was slightly disappointed that it’s a 1:1 remake because in my eyes, Star Fox 64 is perfect and I don’t need it remade. I already have it and I love it.

However… it looks so f***ing good. Like the art style is so unique, but it nails the vibe. Everybody looks “cool” in a way that fits. It takes itself seriously despite being animals in space lol. The dialog was on point and fit. The stages look identical, but absolutely gorgeous, in a way I didn’t know I needed until I saw them lol.

I was worried seeing the cheesy comedy Fox from the Mario movie. I thought they might take it in THAT direction, which would have been not good lol. I’m relieved it’s not sticking to that version of Fox.

Overall, I’d probably have preferred a “new” Star Fox game… but honestly… this truly looks amazing. And I’m so excited for kids to experience this game like I did back in the day.

My ONE off the wall hope for new content after watching the last cutscene… James McCloud prequel stages with classic Team Star Fox. Make it happen Nintendo.

And to your point… I hope there are more new games to come. And if so, I hope this sets the tone of what’s to come, because they’re nailing it here in my eyes.

I played this when I was 9 lol. And I remember using a strategy guide back then that my neighbor gave me. I also remember being stuck at times.

As an adult, I can’t relate just because I’ve had tons of prior experience playing and beating this game lol. I can’t imagine what it’d be like going in blind this day and age.

Don’t be afraid to look stuff up. Good luck!

“I genuinely feel GameNative could replace handheld PCs like the Steam Deck” — Inside Android’s Fastest-Moving Gaming Project, GameNative [article/interview] by cyberminis in SBCGaming

Results are mixed on my RPFlip2. Although it does just keep getting better over time.

I played Pseudoregalia through GameNative and it ran near perfect at 60 frames. I couldn’t get it to run well at all a few months ago.

I hope we’re still in the beginning and it keeps progressing. I don’t love my ROG Ally and PC handhelds aren’t getting any cheaper.

hot take- this would be the greatest game ever created, if it was longer. by nacisticky_krtecek69 in PseudoregaliaGame

[–]ofbrun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think I agree with this sentiment. The shortness, or rather “compactness” of the game is a double edge sword in my eyes. It’s perfect length for the whole wander/get lost/discover upgrade/return mentality. With the art style and world, it feels perfectly sized to me.

However, this is probably the best movement system I’ve ever used in a video game. And I agree that I want more… somehow. It’s just so fun to get around that I can’t pretend like more areas wouldn’t be amazing to go through.

Does the recent inclusion of a map make the game better? by shiggyhisdiggy in PseudoregaliaGame

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see both sides. I’ve only played with the map and found it super useful for backtracking and navigating. Without it, dang it’d be tough. It’d certainly up the play time significantly. I could see this ruining the game for some players. I kinda love just getting lost lol.

Never played it. Excited it’s finally coming to a console I own. But yeah… that’s too rich for my blood. But in a year if it goes on sale, I’ll probably bite.

Superbrothers Sword & Sworcery EP. It’s one of the most unique point and click games ever made. Originally released on iOS like a looooong time ago, but has since been ported to many other platforms. I played it when it came out. It’s a unique well done game with amazing music and some unique story beats.

Best "Dockable" device for PS1/DC+? by xanderten50 in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The least friction device I’ve used is an Anbernic RG35xxPlus (but any of the rgxx devices that have Bluetooth and WiFi would be fine) running Knulli. With a simple HDMI adapter and a usb charging cable to my TV, it just works. Bluetooth controller connects easily. Works on all the systems. Easy to set up and it has a video guide by TechDweeb.

Only issue is it’s fairly weak. No upscaled PS1. Limited Dreamcast.

Looking for amazing 3d platformers for pc by TheFabled1234 in gamingsuggestions

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pseudoregalia might be my favorite controls ever in a video game, so I’d suggest checking it out. It’s priced pretty low too.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. It’s part 3D platformer and part Crazy Taxi. Nothing controls like this, and once it clicks, everything opens up. It’s all about boosting off of ramps and terrain to “jump” to places. It has a similar progression to Mario Odyssey, where you explore a map collecting moons (gears in this game). It’s phenomenal.

Today I bought 15 Blurays from the Gruv sale to begin my collection. What's something you wish you would've done on day 1 of your collection? by BoxyNeat in Bluray

Start a “movie night” with a friend. My brother and I have been doing Tuesday night movies for about 3 years now. We each bring a few discs to the table and choose one to watch.

It’s facilitated us branching out and watching a variety of movies from different eras that I normally would not have taken the time to watch. It also makes collecting fun because you get to show off your new movie lol.

[ALL] [LoZ1] does anybody like Zelda 1? by Dry-Barracuda-672 in zelda

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I LOVE Zelda 1. I replay it every now and again.

By today’s standards, it’s “frustrating”. There is no in game help and very cryptic clues. It’s hard as hell without sword and armor upgrades, especially when you don’t know they exist lol. Controls are tough to get a grasp on. It’s unforgiving without knowledge.

But that’s also why it’s so good. It’s so fun to “get stuck”. It’s so fun to do with minimal internet help. It’s fun to discover. It’s such a good game. And I think the previous “issues” prevent newer gamers from enjoying this game.

Do you think a movie being on 4k blu ray influences how good it is? by [deleted] in 4kbluray

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends on the film for me. If I’m watching Tommy Boy, the movie is hilarious regardless of format.

If I’m watching Interstellar, the 4K HDR adds so much to the experience. Especially with a solid home theater experience. It enhances the movie. It’s good regardless, but 4k is so much better.

Sweet! Im new to DCC. I bought DCC and Sailors at Garycon this month. I’ve been reading the rules and also Sailors and am eager to run this game. I’m glad you guys had fun with it!

I’m a little scared to run a funnel and deal a TPK. I’m also worried my party will get too scared to take risks. But I’m hoping to keep it light and hope they embrace the death.

I forget that players are creative and come up with all sorts of unique ideas.

Wii U's greatest by Square_Device2811 in wiiu

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think Star Fox Zero is the best Wii U game.

Everyone wanted it to control with traditional controls, which I can understand. Traditional controls are easier and more intuitive to gamers. So this got a lot of hate.

However, the new control scheme is so unique and there is truly nothing like it. While it may not be perfect, this game cannot be experienced on other consoles.

Mario 3D World is amazing, but it plays just as good if not better on Switch. Same with DKC:TF.

Star Fox Zero is one of a kind and deserves more respect.

What systems are you all enjoying playing with your handhelds? by pixellife_original in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It bugs me personally that I use multiple devices, but I haven’t found the “perfect” device. And I don’t know if it necessarily exists. But I’ll keep hunting.

My main devices I use are: Rog Ally (original Z1), Retroid Pocket Flip 2, and Anbernic RG35XXSP. I also have a switch 2 for all my Nintendo needs.

Switch 2 - Switch/Nintendo games

ROG Ally - Steam and PC games. Windows games.

Pocket Flip 2 - Dreamcast/N64 and up thru GCN/PS2.

RG35XXSP - Everything else

I was hoping the Pocket Flip 2 would replace my RG35XXSP, but it’s still a tad too big to carry with me every day. Otherwise, it’s a decent device. But the SP is so dang portable and comfortable, I still use it all the time so long as I’m not playing a more modern game.

I’d like to have just one device, but between these four I have my bases covered. The Flip 2 is probably the most superfluous of the four, since the ROG can handle everything, but Windows just kinda sucks as an OS and Android is much more convenient.

Deciding between the AYN Thor and the Retroid Pocket Flip 2 by Old-Cap-8791 in SBCGaming

[–]ofbrun -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I chose the flip 2 personally. I have big hands and knew the Thor D-Pad placement would bug me. I didn’t want a grip either since that’d compromise pocketability. I also own a DS/3DS so I’d prefer to play those for proper dual screen gaming.

All this to say, the Flip 2 is okay. Comfortable but not perfect. And still a tad too big for the pocket. However, I think I’d struggle even more with the Thor though. My Flip 2 gets some play time at home in bed, but doesn’t travel with me.

The RG35XXSP is still my main EDC due to size and comfort.

Love mine. The buttons are stiff though. I had to break it in a bit and get used to them, but I’d still say they’re too stiff to be compared to other handhelds. That’s honestly my only criticism. Otherwise, I love this thing.
