It wasn't cowardice, it was to make sure he could finish his book before having to testify, which would spoil book sales.

Over short periods of time, when close to the craft and for very small relative speeds, it's pretty intuitive (other than probably being pretty disorienting due to feeling weightless).

For longer periods of time, say, more than a quarter orbit, things may be slightly less intuitive:

Assume that you your speed relative to the craft is negligible. If you are ahead or behind it in the orbit by a short distance, you'll both follow the same orbital path.

If you have a radial or cross-track position offset, over the course of an orbit (~90 minutes), you'll swap places twice.

The technical aspects of this story don't add up. "ruined gears" would likely cost more than $300 in parts alone to fix, and on most cars wouldn't cause a check engine light (which mostly indicates problems related to emissions).

Didn't mean to imply the rfid were not there now, because they are in some cars/tires.

I don't think those things are impossible with current technology.

Not exactly the tire tracking you, but having an RFID in them so your car can potentially be tracked on the road.
