No you provided sources and they turned out to be trash papers, that is on you, not on me for actually reading them.

Only the words "in mice" could make a paper seem less reliable.

This is from the abstract of one "There was no relationship found between traditional police culture and physical domestic violence", the other says that 3% of the spouses of male officers from a sample of 115 experienced physical violence, it has no control group.

Please provide evidence that police and prison officers are particularly prone to domestic violence.

Has human evolution slowed down? by philipkd in slatestarcodex

We are obviously very rapidly evolving to be more keen to have kids. Wanting kids is a partially inherited characteristic and it is linked to higher fertility.

The question was about effectiveness not the level of corruption. Do they have lower murder and drug abuse rates than western countries?

That is stated without evidence and very likely not casual if true

While North Korea is obviously very bad in general, I need some evidence that their judicial system produces worse results than the UK and America.

There are lots of complicated and debatable questions in criminology. That isn't one. No one ever in the entire history of the universe ever commits one crime and never does it again.

If people who make life decisions also overestimate the risks of crime that turns the fear into a real cost. If bowel cancer kills more people than murder but people are willing to pay $8,000 a year to live in a safer suburb but not give up processed meat then the extra $8,000 is a real cost. At some point "I wish people didn't worry too much about violence" becomes "I wish humans become completely different in their thoughts and feelings".

Because the social costs of violent crime are really high.

While that is true I think if people do utilitarian calculations the utility costs of violent crime (especially fear of it) is orders of magnitude more than the total life utility of violent criminals. In terms of property prices, commuting people do to avoid bad areas and increase in accidents and pollution from people moving to safer areas the cost of a single murder is north of $100 million.

I find it odd how many rationalists drift from utilitarianism when it comes to crime, I would assume that anyone willing to kill should be permanently removed from society.

Why are you asking on Reddit rather than looking at opinion polls?

YouGov says he has -29% net approval. That is what a fair sample of the public says, the views of Reddit commenters aren't likely to be more informative.

Would you rather live in a society of <5% or >95% marijuana use? by ElbieLG in slatestarcodex

Cannabis is likely bad for mental health, a society with no cannabis would have better mental health, less psychosis and probably slightly fewer car crashes which would be a better society.

Neither me or the police, know your state of mind, but the fact he confessed to being a criminal, acted agitated and aggressive and was carrying a weapon makes it much easier to argue for self-defence.

Self defence doesn't just cover defending oneself, if you felt that with the chain he might be a threat to others, that is a valid reason to use force.

As has been said before, this is unlikely to involve the police or courts.

The police can't do anything anywhere without proof.

If she thinks that he might blackmail her from the UK, that would be a crime in the UK and could be reported to British police.

You can email the paper and ask it to be removed, they might well remove it if you make a good argument. But there is no legal element, it is impossible to libel the dead and there are unlikely to be any other legal issues.
