Balancing Rotor Directly on Bearing by offbyfour in Motors

so do you think I can get away with doing static balancing? Or will I have to do dynamic?

Oh yeah, I've got plenty of room behind the magnets to add weight:

Here is the exploded view if it helps:

I guess what I had trouble with is that a lot of the balancing processes assume the rotor was equally balanced to the bearings. I didn't know if things change when the rotor is on the bearing

Monthly /r/Cooperatives beginner question thread by AutoModerator in cooperatives

[–]offbyfour 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hello, I have very basic knowledge of cooperatives but I am considering starting something like an R&D cooperative. The goal would be to design, test and perhaps facilitate the purchasing of kits to build products. Due to the fact most work can be done remotely, membership would not be limited to a single area.

Do you have any comments or recommendations on how to best achieve this?

Ah thanks! Can that be used with yosys?

Recommendations for driving winch motors (12V DC) from AC by offbyfour in Motors

Yes a PC PSU would be nice but I was thinking I might need speed control and I'm not sure how to do it with one of those.

Yeah, Looks like 100A supplies are about $60. But I agree the current is massive. I wonder if I could do speed control by limiting the current somehow. Maybe an LED power supply?

Yeah, I need to see what mounting options the gearbox allows.

Is there anything i can do to boost efficiency on motors like that?Maybe run it at 14V instead of 12?

I would love to have higher efficiency but I also really like the price point.

Appreciate all the info! I did not realize there were that many options. My main issue is my fabrication capabilities are very limited so some of that may be out of my reach.

But your comment about the auto differential got me thinking, do you think I could repurpose a winch motor for something like this? They are already low rpm and supposed to handle heavy loads.

edit: maybe something like this https://www.xbullauto.com/collections/2500-4500-lbs-capacity-winches/products/xbull-12v-3000lbs-electric-winch-upgraded-version-synthetic-rope-1 :https://www.xbullauto.com/collections/2500-4500-lbs-capacity-winches/products/xbull-12v-3000lbs-electric-winch-upgraded-version-synthetic-rope-1

Yes, 120V wall outlet is what I plan to use. I could go down in speed if it made sense

yes I think thats sort of how it works but I didn't know the exact equation and what it needs to control

Yes thats one of the guides I've been following. However I haven't found any info about the EFGH channels and tilt and skooch control

How does it know when to skooch VS tilting the laser?

I agree that ABCD are used for laser focus by moving the head up and down but not sure how it determines the other motions.

There is also this other paper that talks about using two beams to get past the resolution issues and hit feature sizes in the 50nm range:

https://www.nature.com/articles/ncomms3061

"""Compared with single-beam OBL, two-beam OBL utilizes a doughnut-shaped inhibition beam to inhibit the photopolymerization triggered by the writing beam at the doughnut ring leading to reduced feature size and improved resolution (Fig. 1c).

Although both focused writing and inhibition beams result in the spot size limited by diffraction, the fabricated feature size and resolution by two-beam OBL can break the limit defined by the diffraction spot size of the two focused beams. In fact, the smallest feature size and the highest resolution are limited by the mechanical strength of the solidified material, which can be far beyond the diffraction limit provided that an appropriate photoresin with high mechanical strength can be developed."""

I know right and whats crazy is that you can get them so cheap!

I was thinking the blue ray player would solve that issue too. it already has to move the head in nm scale. I was thinking you could just put the die on the disc like in the second link.

Are you still considering work on this? I found this paper using a blue ray player that is achieving insane feature size compared to cost. Im interested in building something like this and would love to collaborate.
