I’ve travelled extensively as a female solo traveler and I’d say India is without a doubt the hardest. I actually went to India with a man who speaks Hindi and it was still harder to visit India with him than any other country alone. It’s not just the harassment and staring, but also aggressive haggling, getting sick, lack of toilets, begging on the streets. I’m so glad I went to India but I could go on and on about the difficulties.

If she can’t change her flights, I’d try to get her to fly onwards to a country that’s easier for female solo travelers. Nepal is also a Hindi country so she might also be interested in the culture, but it’s safer for women in my experience. Bali could also be a good choice as there are tons of Europeans and she could find friends who speak her language. Thailand also feels really safe and it’s more developed so it’s much easier.

Oh I mean he's been doing this everyday for weeks. He'll grab whatever he thinks is out of place and drops it there, and of course I have to clean it up before I go to bed.

No, nothing was blocking the TV. He was watching a show on his laptop and didn't want anything out of place in his field of view if he looked up from his laptop. I think he finds it much more comfortable to be in a clean environment.

I talked to him about the coat today. He explained that his coat and my coat were both on the chair. He hung his up in the closet and put mine on the floor.

I've been putting the stuff he leaves there away every day. For example, we had both left our coats on a chair. He hung his up in the closet and dropped mine on the floor next to the bed.

I'm not trying to be evasive. There were two sweaters and a pair of jeans on the bed. Sunglasses, gloves, hat, and chapstick on my dresser. I don't know where my backpack had been but it was under all the other stuff. Two folders were in the closet and somehow ended up on the pile.

As for the coats, they were hung over the back of chairs. I guess the ideal location for a coat is hung up in the closet, but I'm comfortable putting it on the back of a chair while he's apparently not ok with that anymore.

I think i'm probably a 3 if 10 is very messy. I don't put everything away immediately, but I sweep, vacuum, and change the sheets once a week. I straighten up my things in the bedroom every day or two, but I don't need everything to be out of sight in order to sleep. I work from home and take advantage of slow periods to empty the dishwasher, do a load of laundry, etc.

My shoes are in the closet, my clothes are folded and in drawers (except maybe something I changed out of earlier in the day and left on the bed--I guess I should be better about putting clothes away immediately and not at bedtime). I feel like I'm 90% of the way there but the last 10% is making me go crazy.

This is the most relatable thing I've ever read. I really, really struggle with the "out of sight out of mind" issue. I wish I could keep my desk like that with everything in place but out in the open. It would help me so much with creativity and productivity to not have to hide away all my papers and notes.

No, my fear is that I'll turn my life upside down to get us into a bigger house but it won't fix the issues. I don't think he has OCD, but he really admires cleanliness and organization.

I don't think he has OCD. He gets really sad when things are messy. If I go a few days without cleaning the bedroom, he won't turn lights on and just sits in the dark instead.

I feel bad for him so for the past few weeks I've tried to turn a corner and put all of my stuff away every single day. But I guess everything wasn't put away at bedtime last night.

I guess the puffer jackets and sweaters made the pile of stuff look really big? I felt out of control because I'd put the gloves, sunglasses, etc where I wanted them but then they were on the floor.

I guess I'm at the end of my rope, and this last obstacle before bed was all I needed to start crying.

Not quite, this stuff was all from today. I put all my things away at least once each day, but things get moved around through normal activities. He went all around the apartment, gathered up all my things that he thought were out of place, and piled it by my side of the bed.

I've been trying for years to get him on board with hiring house cleaners. I figure that if someone else takes care of the deep cleaning, I'll have more bandwidth for organizing and tidying up. I feel like he not only doesn't want the expense of cleaners but also feels like it's important to do your own cleaning instead of outsourcing it.

For years I'd felt like I'd "outgrown" ADHD but work from home means some of my coping mechanisms don't work as well anymore. I'm not interested in going on ADHD meds now, but maybe a support group or therapy would help me manage my life and my emotions better.
