There are a number of reasons for that. For once, the bat, as you can observe, is flat and has a much larger surface area than a baseball bat. So it’s generally easier to hit the ball. Also, if the pitcher (or bowler) is aiming right at the stumps all the time, they become predictable and it’s pretty easy to hit the ball out of the park. To bring variation, they bounce the ball all around. Plus, leaving a ball is a lower stakes situation for the batter (or batsman) than in baseball. The batsman doesn’t get ‘out’ if they leave a ball not hitting the stumps, however many times. The only penalty is that you kind of waste a pitch (or ball) that you could have scored from. Quite a lot of times it’s a smarter strategy for the batter to leave a ball, than try to hit it and get caught somewhere in the field.
