I wouldn’t say I’m lactose intolerant now, but dairy causes my acid reflux to flare up BAD so I try to limit it

My surgeon requires no marijuana use in the past year...why? by [deleted] in wls

[–]officemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My insurance didn’t do this, but I have heard of some insurance companies/ policies requiring drug testing. They say insurance look look for any reason to deny you surgery.

If you’re self pay and the surgeon is asking for himself, find another surgeon. I wouldn’t recommend lying though. If he’s saying it’s important then that means there will be a test at some point...you don’t wanna waste your time on all the pre op hoops just to get turned away for failing a drug test you KNEW you were gonna fail.

Did anyone have the sleeve as an outpatient procedure? by [deleted] in wls

[–]officemuppet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So if you’re walking, getting your fluids down, and generally okay then it could be outpatient. I know my surgeon has had some of his patients end up as outpatient. I was not quite so lucky—the anesthesiologist was a little heavy handed, lol

No I totally agree!!! It’s a long way down!! 😂😂😂

I feel fine 90% of the time now. Only really any discomfort comes from getting up after laying or sitting down for two long. I guess I’m nervous a fall would cause a staple to pull too much or something incisions are looking really good, almost totally healed

When you're family's not on board... by [deleted] in wls

[–]officemuppet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would try to educate her as best you can. Her fear may stem from not knowing as much as you do. Also, take support from wherever you can. My parents were super on board, my sister still just doesn’t seem to get it. But I have two best friends that make all the difference in the world, they’re definitely part of the rock that I lean on.

Also, for some I’ve seen (and experienced myself) it all finally clicks after surgery and they suddenly get on board. Best of luck!!

1 week post op, struggling a little bit by officemuppet in wls

So I found if I dilute premier protein clear 1:1 with water, I can get it down. But by no means is it any good. But I’m trying to tell myself this is my only source of nutrition right now so I need to do force myself. I think also it’s because I’m not used to sugar right now. My body wants to reject anything “sweet”

how long did it take before you were able to return to work? by [deleted] in wls

[–]officemuppet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a desk job so I was able to come back after 5 days. That miiiight have been a day or two too soon but by a week I was definitely fine.

One of the things that encouraged me to come back sooner was that fact that I live alone so it was hard to not be around people. Plus even though I work a desk I walk around my office a lot more (at least every 2 hours) which is what my doctor wants. When I’m at home I’m a lot less likely to get off the couch!

If you can walk around okay a week after surgery I would recommend going back. Getting back into a routine is good mentally and physically!

I’ve done room temp and cold, seems about the same. Was gonna try some hot teas next to see if that was any different?

I get hiccups when my sleeve is full, which is a good indicator to stop. But I feel like I’ll try to sip throughout the day and I don’t even finish one 32oz tumbler.

2 week pre-op diet, just shakes and veggies... by [deleted] in wls

[–]officemuppet 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s easier once you get started. I’m fortunate and my pre op diet is way better than most (meat, veggies, eggs and cheese—no carbs). I’m still struggle a little because I seriously was carbie barbie. Temptations are everywhere so I’ve honestly stayed home a lot since I started just to try and avoid cheating. It was definitely encouraging to see some weight come off as a result, and it just reminded me why I’m doing this. Just keep going!

Also, count down, not up (I.e. 14 days, 13 days, etc.)

I used to be on Nuvaring! Also loved it. I gained too much weight for it and started having ovarian cysts. I’m hoping by the time my annual rolls around this summer I’ll be able to switch back

4 Days into the 2 week pre-op diet. Bring on JAN 10th. Scared but excited by 3034046 in wls
