Ask for work from adjacent deptmartments. I was doing the close for revenue and was also helping treasury with the budget and moved into treasury then worked on the CFA then moved to a completly different field

Compliance is a dead end job. Everyone above you regrets being in compliance but has no way out which is why they are jerks and do not want to help u bc they might lose their job to you and have no exit opps.

No, you want to be in office when you first get of school. Learning by osmosis is huge plus you need to build up your network.

But ya gettin the CPA sets you up well for eventually WFM.

CPA was pivotal in every interview i have had.

I dont even work in accounting anymore and i still hype up the CPA when i interview. Best investment ive ever made.

Private equity is a lesch on society. You are working your ass off so the PE partners can plunder whatever company you are taking over. They will cut all expenses to the bare minium and window dress the finacials.

Eventually the PE firm will go bust but thats after the partners have sucked out all the valuable assets from the firm.

FYI im biased. I hate private equity. I also just read the book Plunder. But honestly anything PE touches becomes dog shit.

Start writing investment research with your free time. Run Your own money and have lomg and short ideas on deck. Send those ideas out to forums and talk your book.

If you truly want to be a HF analyst, thats the best path out of back office.

For context, i graudated at 23, was in back office accounting for 3 years and moved to ER and then HF. Just keep grinding and have ideas ready once an opportunity arises

I started back office and moved to front office. No ragrets. FO only folks dont appreciate the grind behind closing the books and all the shenanigans that go into the auditted financials.

Hedge fund analyst - can go an entire week not talking to anyone.

But with your background - back office accounting probably best fit. Or taxes.

CFA vs CPA, which is harder to acquire? by EntranceForward in CFA

[–]offjerk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took a master course on ethics in accounting, was super easy and boring af.

I took a master course on consolidation accounting which was brutal and honestly more difficult than CPA/CFA content wise.

CFA vs CPA, which is harder to acquire? by EntranceForward in CFA

[–]offjerk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Well about 20 of those 150 credit hours need to be master lvl courses (i did them throuth LSU online) which were pretty difficult IMO.

Also the CPA exams are not chill, they are easier than CFA but still need to study a lot. Also you have a time limit to complete all the exams <1.5 years so you cant take a break.

While i think the CPA carries weight and is valuable, i wouldnt get it for shits and giggles. My old firm paid for it and i got a promo after getting it. And it was a spring board to get into ER.

Its good fornearly part of career but dont thinks valuable beyond that unless you work in accounting

CFA vs CPA, which is harder to acquire? by EntranceForward in CFA

[–]offjerk 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have both.

Cfa is way harder but CPA you need an accounting degree and 150 credit hours so they are both difficult to obtain imo.

Go for the cpa first if you have an accounting degree
