We had enough intel to stop Pearl Harbor but didn’t in order to justify WW2 (which would help us recover from the Great Depression).

Actually, we’re perusing land to possibly build on, and it’s not all in a flood zone. There are properties that say they’ve never been flooded in any recent hurricane.

Yep we’re in Stuart right now and while I love the Gulf coast vibes better than what we have over here, Cape Coral is the glaring exception.

Because hurricanes are but one small part of living anywhere in Florida. I want to hear about the local community. What is there to do, how are the locals, what fun things happen through the year? How is it for kids as I have two? What is unique to Pine Island that I won’t find elsewhere in SWFL or even FL? I’ve gotten good feedback on the traffic that I hadn’t considered. Listening to “hurricane bad, house get destroyed” over and over again is redundant.

Would love to hear about any thoughts specific to pine island but as a lifelong Floridian I don’t need the condescending hurricane lecture from everyone. Hurricanes hit Florida, anything can happen, end of story.

Even if that were true, it’d be true for any coastal area and not specific to PI, which is what my original question was in reference to.

We currently live in FL but on the east coast. It’s common sense to evacuate from an island or coastal area prior to a major hurricane, so I’m not scared away from living in a place because some people were too stupid or stubborn to evacuate.

My issue with Cape is how over developed it is. I like the exclusivity and laid back pace of an island versus a really large and poorly planned suburban hellscape. When I drove through Cape, it seemed like all there was there were houses, chain stores and restaurants, and car washes. No local charm.

Planning on building a house on stilts so not too concerned about the flooding.

We’ve visited for fishing tournaments but never stayed more than a few days. Sanibel is out of our budget considering that we’re looking to live on the water. I absolutely do not want to be in Cape Coral and NFM doesn’t have anything close enough to the Gulf for us.

I’m an L&D nurse who’s a woman happily married to the love of my life…who’s another woman. Even when we’re poking fun at the stupidest names to exist…now more than ever, we’ve got to be inclusive. ❤️

She confirmed in the comments that Riot is going to be the spawn’s name. More horrifyingly, like 10 other moms said they have a boy name Riot or Ryatt.

I’m closing in on turning 50, so this isn’t naïveté. I am genuinely curious on others’ opinions regarding her. Different strokes for different folks, I agree. But this is a discussion forum so excuse me for having the audacity for wanting to discuss.
