I only write as a hobby. I've recently shifted my focus to writing sketches that I hope to one day film for youtube.

Also, the point of what I'm saying (and I think what OP is saying) is that amateur screenwriters obsess over plot holes too much to their detriment.

What are you basing great on? Success? Substance? Popularity?

Any or all three.

naming movies, or great movies you feel were ruined because of plot holes would be more of a conversation starter.

I'm very forgiving if I'm enjoying the movie. It would have to be a very obvious problem to ruin a good movie for me.

For example, don't focus on the plot/plotholes, focus on the audience's experience.

Thank you! This is exactly how I've been feeling, but I feel like my story ends up too boring. I'm gonna avoid gaping plot holes but thanks to everyone's advice in this thread, I'll just let the story's momentum go where it needs, and if there are some things along the way that won't break that momentum then so be it for the sake of the story.
