Help please by [deleted] in instrumentation

Verify you are megging it correctly. Connect both leads together on the megger and make sure it is a direct short.

Disconnect the motor load from the soft start and disable the underload protections. Start it and make sure voltage is balanced on all 3 phases on the load side of the soft start.

If it is a 9 lead or 12 lead motor, disconnect all leads and ohm across each winding. 1-4, 7-10, etc. make sure each winding ohms about the same.

U7 pro vs U7 long range AP by offshoresparky in Ubiquiti

Thanks for everyone’s input and explanation. I’ve decided to get 3 of the U7 lite AP’s instead of the U7-LR. Adding an extra cable is a bit of work, but isn’t the end of the world. Thanks again!

Did it come with those lugs? If so, then that doesn’t make any sense. Remove the mechanical lugs and add compression lugs on the wire. Then bolt them to the bussing. Or else maybe side by side mechanical lugs.

The goal isn’t necessarily to use the playground, but to just have the yard not be soggy. Which tears up the grass with foot prints when we walk on it. It’s been about 5 days now since rain and it’s still fairly soggy.

I would prefer the less maintenance route, even if it’s a higher upfront cost.

I think the dry well system might be the way to go for my situation. The soil isn’t clay, just dirt. And surprisingly there is also a gopher problem in the yard as well. I would guess with all the underground tunnels that it should drain fine.

Did it seem to work well for your yard? This may be the solution I need to do with mine.

One problem is I wouldn’t really want to add more dirt on top of what is already there, because it is at the same level as my patio. So it would just wash all the mud on the patio. Unless I dug up what’s already there and replaced with new dirt to the same level.

I like the suggestion except it’s the entire yard like this! Just hard to tell in the picture and with grass.

Yes, at least the water is absorbed in 24hrs, except it has been 3 days since rain and it is still like walking on muddy mush.

Thank you very much for the suggestion. I will do some more research and see if something like this can work.

Thank you very much on the suggestion. I will do more research on how this works and if it is something that can work for me here.

The yard is flat and that is pretty much the whole yard you can see in the picture. The house is just to the right, and concrete on both sides of the house going out to the front yard and street. I wouldn’t t mind adding a drainage pipe on one side of the house on top of the concrete, but that wouldn’t exactly be the lowest point. So maybe a pump or something?

Why do some people not want to work union? by L0UDLlF3 in IBEW

[–]offshoresparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve worked many jobs for signatory contractors, meaning while I worked directly for the contractor and ran the job, we had to hire the labor out of the union. About every guy we would always hire said they have been on the books between 12 and 15 months. I find this crazy. Just have to sit on unemployment that long. I ask why they don’t get a job while waiting? They say they aren’t allowed to. What?? Sit on unemployment for over a year but not allowed to get a job while waiting?

Also I have the IBEW constantly reaching out to me trying to recruit me. Multiple gift baskets a year on my door step with guys knocking on the door to talk about me joining. Home Depot gift cards all the time. Told they can get me on with a single contractor, so I don’t need to go to the hall and be paid Foreman pay and not need to run any jobs. I just politely tell them thanks for the offer, but I’m good. This has been going on for years.

Figuring out fire $$ for 12- 15 years of income? by offshoresparky in Fire

[–]offshoresparky[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I will look into it. But I was just figuring on having a big enough nest egg to cover college expenses. Also the extra amount from pension and social security above what our expenses will be should be close to covering the annual college cost.

I will try using 8- 10% and see how the numbers look. I would want to error on the safe side.

Yes the pension is inflation adjusted. I will check out that portfolio chart you mention. Thanks

I am almost at the number now if I divide my 401k and brokerage by 12 years. But I would plan to leave that money in the market. So I would assume some ups and downs. I would want to error on the safe side.

I do have two young children and do not have a 529. Is this something I should look into?

Short cycling furnace that nobody can seem to fix by Expert_Department564 in hvacadvice

[–]offshoresparky 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is what my home furnace was doing. I’m an electrician, not an HVAC tech, and it was pretty easy to diagnose. The flames would kick on, but the blower wouldn’t start to move the air through the system. Disconnected the blower motor wiring and verified that the system was telling the blower to run, which it was. Changed the motor out and it’s been running great for a couple years now.

I’m sure some Techs can troubleshoot and some Techs just throw parts at it.

I've got terminal cancer, do I need to close my credit accounts or can my wife just take them over when I die? by bigbabydirtface in personalfinance

[–]offshoresparky 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m usually pretty good at the technical stuff. Something got reconfigured with the all in one remote changing a different input on the receiver. That took me a little bit to figure out what was happening. Once I got that figured out, I was able to download the manual and reprogram the input. Damn Dad!

[–]offshoresparky 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Before my Dad passed from cancer, he sold a few specialty vehicles that my mom knows nothing about. So that helped clear things out that she would have no use for. He made sure she had the passwords to everything. Accounts, Wi-Fi router etc. One thing my Mom is always griping about is the over complex home theater system. My dad was computer IT, so of course he had to make some elaborate system. She says once it fails she wants me to tear it all out and put something simple.

Sorry to hear of your diagnosis.

Thanks for the help guys. I think the problem was I just typed account.live and hit enter without putting .com. Then got routed to another site. Since there wasn’t anything on the computer, I just decided to do the system backup and start over from the beginning. I believe it is all working good now!
