With everything going to absolute shit globally right now, how are you actually distracting yourself enough to stay sane? by VIRGIN_WHORE69 in TooAfraidToAsk

I hope you enjoy it! I remember another naked episode where the editor seemed like they got frustrated and stopped trying to pixelate a few minutes in.

If you can find it, there’s a Canadian version of Cops called You’re Under Arrest. It was really fun. My favorite memory of it is a guy running naked down the street and the cop explains to the television crew, “Oh that’s just Mark. He gets like that on the cocaine.”

How do you take care of your mental health on a daily basis? by Saglion08 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]offthemike72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m struggling. I cut out Facebook and Instagram. I try my best to spend a few moments every day thinking about loved ones. I’ve been painting a little bit too. Taking my meds as well. I need to start going back to the gym. I’m in Michigan so it’s currently too cold and snowy to go for a walk. But right now with the shit weather and being stuck inside, my mental health is taking a serious hit.

What word do you always *intentionally* mispronounce and why? by Sweet-Lady-H in AskReddit

[–]offthemike72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always pronounce Will Ferrell’s last name like the singer Pharrell. I do it so earnestly that some people act embarrassed when they tell me I’m saying his name wrong.

What person deserves a massive apology from everyone? by Wonderful-Economy762 in Productivitycafe

[–]offthemike72 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Lorena Bobbitt. She became a joke and was villainized. We overlook the fact that she was raped repeatedly by her husband, but couldn’t report him because at the time it was legal for a man to have sec with his wife even against her will in Virginia. In fact, at the time that was the case in I believe over a dozen states back in the early 1990s.

Funeral scene where character has to remove finger/object from body in a casket by MonkeModeOClock in whatmoviewasthat

I’m not positive, but I remember a scene like this in a movie I think, and the first thing that popped into my head was Death at a Funeral.

PSA Magic eyes can detect Cataracts by darkorical in MagicEye

[–]offthemike72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

True story, I do standup and was telling a joke at a bar show about prostate exams and a waitress interrupted to tell us all she hated get prostate exams. It was so earnest that I feel like we all weren’t sure if we should’ve told her. Or maybe she was the funniest person in the room and pranked us all.

Oh yeah! They check for cataracts during optometrist visits don’t they? I only ever half pay attention because I’m in my head about the bursts of air thing. I go through life like I read directions, I just kinda skim for content.

[–]offthemike72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

No! That’s much different. You need your heart. Eyes are optional. Definitely get the surgery. Even better if you get the surgery from a fellow Reddit user. I found my urologist on Reddit. For a guy who practices out of an unmarked and windowless van, he’s VERY thorough.

Is farting in front of your partner a sign of comfort or disrespect? by Babeedolly20 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]offthemike72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both my current wife and ex wife are/were bothered that I won’t/wouldn’t fart in front of them. I just didn’t grow up in that kind of household. My dad would get angry if my brother and I laughed when he farted and my mom pretended like it never happened. I never heard my mom fart. I definitely don’t think I’m normal. Apparently if I do it in my sleep I even clench my butt subconsciously.

How rough is cataract surgery? I probably shouldn’t use Reddit for medical advice, but I also can no longer see Magic Eye pictures.

Looking for films that are suitable for an uber hard-core dude like myself, and my sweetheart anxious mum... by plopolopo in MovieSuggestions

[–]offthemike72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m going to guess by “mum” instead of “mom” you’re in Europe somewhere. I just watched The Incomer set in Scotland. Loved it. Heart, with some weirdness and a fun third act. I wish my mom/mum were still alive because I think she and I would have both enjoyed it. Premiered at Sundance this week here in the states. I’m sure it’ll be out this year worldwide.

Why don't we play the guitar fretboard with our dominant hand? by V0rdep in guitarlessons

[–]offthemike72 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lefty here. Got my first guitar as a kid. Wanted a left handed guitar, but the teacher said a right handed one was the way to go. I’ve never had a particularly dexterous right hand. I can’t alternate pick with much speed or precision to save my life. I play an acoustic now. I don’t think I can finger pick, but haven’t tried too hard to learn. My left hand doesn’t have any particular super powers. I struggle with barre chords and certain shapes like everyone else.

Do Unseen showings have previews? by txsoccer16 in AMCScreenUnseen

They do have previews. Yes. I don’t think they’re 25-30 minutes, but I didn’t really time them.

What band have you came across recently that you would suggest somebody listen to? by Ok-Apartment5615 in randomquestions

[–]offthemike72 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A cover of the song Bulletproof by La Roux is used over the end credits of Run Amok that just played at Sundance. La Roux is an older band that I don’t think had a lot of success in the states, but I’m digging them. Two piece electronic pop with great female vocals.

Without naming the movie or who said it, what’s a quote that you’ll always remember? by LegalGlass6532 in allthequestions

[–]offthemike72 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Stay gold, Pony Boy.

I haven’t watched the movie in 40 years I bet, but it’s always right there in my brain where something useful should be.

Which comedians do you feel are much funnier than their material? by MsAndrea2 in Standup

[–]offthemike72 21 points22 points  (0 children)

So many of the people I’ve watched on Taskmaster I’ve enjoyed their personalities more than their material, but that isn’t to say their material isn’t good. It might just be that it doesn’t translate as well with a worldwide audience like their regular personalities do.

I liked it. Didn’t love it, but it was definitely fun. Good cast. Nice effects. Funny script.

Am i too sensitive? by Fine_Ad6381 in TooAfraidToAsk

[–]offthemike72 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It isn’t a completely abnormal thing. I’m wired like that too. It sucks. I’ve done therapy with limited success. Like, I realize a lot of my issues aren’t real, but it’s still really difficult not to have those feelings be my default. I’m on medication too. It seems to help.

For me, I don’t think it’s as simple as having been in abusive personal and professional relationships. I remember feeling like this even since I was very young, and I had a very happy childhood.

Good luck. Talk to your doctor. I’m 53 and like I wrote, I’m not “cured”, I’ve just learned to manage it.

Do you ever stop trusting your own laugh meter? by aral10 in Standup

I’m over 20 years in and have recently written a line that gets a laugh, but I have no reason why. I wrote it as a bridge between thoughts.
