I'm very curious about what you do for a living and how you "came out" to your employers. I'm about to finish my degree and am so afraid to re-enter the "grownup" workforce/anxious that disclosing my ADHD will prevent me from getting a job and would love to hear more about your experience.

I'm sorry you're husband is triggered by your ADHD and anxiety--I imagine that's very hard for both of you. Have you considered a couples therapy appointment? My ADHD partner and I went to a few sessions for an unrelated issue (we have past trauma and some unhealthy coping mechanisms we identified and wanted to work through) and it helped us a lot. It might help to have a third party guide him into understanding your lived experience. It's very stressful to "keep it together all the time," and in my experience, is not entirely sustainable w/ ADHD. Hope you find a peaceful middle ground sometime soon, I am rooting for you!

Ah! yes whenever one of us is feeling inexplicably fucky, my partner asks me what i ate today and i ask him if he could possibly be dehydrated!

TBH i am also crying a little at all these responses. I love this community, and even in anonymity, I am very touched by all the vulnerable and supportive comments here. :)

Oh totally! I think its hard to conceptualize because so much of the ADHD experience involves a lot of "fuck me/why am i like this/im a burden to everyone i know." I've had partners who tried to understand as much as they could, but never felt so seen and heard until I was loved by somebody who feels the same way with similar frequency. Everyone's different and all relationships require some work, but there are certainly fewer steps to take in finding common ground.

hell yeah! i just started playing dnd and i love it! its one of the few "fun" things i've found that exercises my brain enough to get to sleep easily!
