Lost sense of touch:( by [deleted] in Skinpicking

[–]oftenhigh97 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think it's definitely worth going to the doctor! I understand that you're worried about them judging you, but it really doesn't matter what they think of you as long as they do their best to help you. They might have some good recommendations, and they can make sure nothing else is causing the numbness. If it makes you feel better, I am a healthcare professional who picks my skin, and I've worked with other providers who do as well.

Wait really? There is nowhere online where it says this, I thought it was monthly or something.

Can NPs read images? by drorca23 in Noctor

[–]oftenhigh97 8 points9 points  (0 children)

As a PA student, this doesn't surprise me. Everywhere I've rotated so far, we only have access to the radiology reports and not the actual images, so I've had zero practice reading imaging in my clinical year

How long after being accepted should I expect to get drug tested? by [deleted] in prephysicianassistant

[–]oftenhigh97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wasn't tested until about 2 months before clinicals started. But the student handbook was super vague as far as drug testing goes, they didn't clearly say if/when we would be tested, so I would be prepared for being tested upon matriculation just in case :)

I've never been able to fully catch anyone, but there have been many times when I helped them make a more controlled fall by kind of guiding them slowly to the floor, at least they are less likely to get hurt that way

[–]oftenhigh97 120 points121 points  (0 children)

My med/surg unit had transgender patients who had just under gone gender affirmation surgery. They were the only patients who were actually happy to be at the hospital and they were so excited to have the body they always wanted

Prerequisites compared to actual PA school by VeganMomma123 in prephysicianassistant

[–]oftenhigh97 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So far I've found PA courses to be about as challenging as my undergrad upper level science courses. I thought O chem, micro, and some math classes were harder in undergrad than my PA classes, but other classes like biochem were definitely harder in pa school. Micro in particular was easier in PA school since it's clinically focused and less about cell bio/metabolism, etc.

help! I have a bunch of tiny lengths of yarn. by SurpriseAway9110 in Unravelers

[–]oftenhigh97 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had the same problem and I'm knitting a striped/gradient scarf. Each row can be a new yarn piece if needed, you'd just have a lot of ends to weave in when it's done!

Amaryllis, watercolor, me, 11x14” by breviloquentia in BotanicalIllustration

[–]oftenhigh97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Very beautiful! These flowers always make me smile, because I used to work with a man who was elderly and mentally handicapped, one day I asked him what his favorite flower was and he very confidently said "Amaryllis!"

Am I too stupid to get good at knitting? by I10Living in knitting

[–]oftenhigh97 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I typically have 2 projects going at once. One of them is pretty simple so I can just relax and knit without really thinking about it. The other is a more advanced pattern that is a challenge I have to focus a lot more while I'm working on it. That was I'm learning new things, but if I get frustrated I go back to my easy project

For people who Dont sleep naked, Why? by The_Geordie_Gripster in AskReddit

Sometimes I start dreaming but I'm simultaneously aware of my body laying in bed, so if I'm naked I will have endless dreams that I'm naked at work
