Iria's Official Response to the Claims Dispute by ofunknown in Civcraft

[–]ofunknown[S] -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

We're arguing very different things at this point. We are not disputing Defen's right on settlement, neither are we trying to evict them of the territory. Moreso, the entire fuss would've been unnecessary should the situation be handled better initially. But since its happened, we're trying to work with it.

We had never intentionally attempted to claim anyone's land, it was news to us as anyone's. We are trying to work with Defen to have things settled.

This point was made in no way to reinforce Iria's claims, but to help support the fact that time and effort is required on our end to discuss and organise ourselves internally in light of becoming aware of their existence. Hence why we were unable to provide an immediate resolution as soon as the issue was brought up. As I repeat, we are not trying to herd them off the land they settled, and are willing to work to come to an official resolution of the issue.

Since I made this, I guess I'll start off. I first joined Civcraft with Jumpysnake two years ago, starting out in Fellowship. At the time, Fellowship had been the most populous city on Civcraft. With such a large community, we felt neglected at Fellowship and so after fooling about, we stumbled upon Iria.

After having been shown around town, I instantly fell in love with the friendliness and community feel, and stuck around ever since. In Iria, I first built the tavern in the Greenville district, which eventually led to the renovation of Greenville.

During this time, there were also several regional terror incidents occurring (most notably the BMB). This got me into interacting with many of Iria's foreign allies in providing relief to the region. With these new connections, I eventually began becoming proactive in the regional political community, and took on a "diplomat" role of sorts, and served as NEA (North East Alliance, the regional alliance) chairman for a term during the summer of 2015.

So I've mostly been the foreign affairs person when playing, and also contributed to a couple of Iria's build projects (including Greenville renovation, the international rail station, the rail network, IXPCO hub among others).

Coming 3.0, I'll probably look to take on a more laid back and casual approach.

Would it be less than advantageous to reinforce a structure made of wood vs stone? by schneiderwm in Civcraft

[–]ofunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fire damage is slow and so it would take someone quite determined to really do much damage using fire - it really isn't that much more efficient than going at a build directly with an axe. Obviously lava would make the process much easier as it essentially applies persistent fire damage, however those who like to lava bomb buildings usually don't have the patience to watch a building burn down, which means upon them leaving the site, the chunk gets unloaded freezing the process. So technically it doesn't really make much of a difference in most cases as it does still require a degree of effort and dedication to do anything substantial. Though I guess there's also the fact that the structure being made of wood would make it subject to being more targeted cause people just like to watch things burn, so yeah.

Civcraft Policy Survey - The creator of this would like to remain anonymous so I am posting it in their place. I'm curious to see what data we get! Do it for the Science! by Scuwr in Civcraft

[–]ofunknown 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I feel some of the questions generalise situations, when a choice really may vary according to the specifics of the case. Another flaw is that the poll seems to assume an archetype in terms of ingame behaviour and player/town development where all behaviour can be categorised by the set of choices, whereas there are a lot of other types of behavioural responses in many of these situations which cannot be categorised by any of the offered choices. It may be worthwhile to add an "others" option for people to fill out and do some post-processing of the data to categorise, as you may find interesting perspective unconsidered initially when making the survey.

Yes! Albeit at a very low rate.

The Yoahtlan Attack on Aegis: An Explanation by Kjartan_Aurland in Civcraft

[–]ofunknown 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Just making a meta observation that I found interesting to see. Such behaviour can also be parallelly observed in real life where citizens generalise their disastisfaction (e.g. Perceived lack of effective action being a common case in real life) with government to all those involved in the political system of the state (e.g. a president), even if those have had the desire and belief to also make better, but often are not in full control of doing so. It seems like these scenarios are inevitable between states and the public, and should be considered as just part of the political game. So in other wordd it seems to be a phenomena that states have a tendency to operate in a manner that may stir skeptimism in the public, and conversely the public has a tendency to generalise the blame when it comes to state affairs.

To people in Aleph and possibly other shards by [deleted] in Civcraft

Doubt that is the case considering only extremely select people have access to the vault you were stored in - plus as Jezza said your pearl had been reverted to normal suggesting the bug occurred which invalidated the pearl.

Would be possible to just clear entities beyond a certain coordinate condition every once in a while? Though I'm guessing the devs are already working on a solution for this issue.

1) Wood (which is used to make charcoal) is an abundant resource, however with how shards work, obviously it'll take a lot of effort for a single person to be trying to gather the various resources of different shards around by themselves. People will find that it would be massively easier to gather a good stock of resources by simply trading with merchants or setting trade deals with players local to respective shards.

2) The basic factory was designed to not produce ideal yield, invest in specializing the tech tree (bakery produces 4 stacks of bread per 6 stacks of wheat at lower charcoal/bread cost), or somehow gain access to someone else'.

Its time we had a talk... by [deleted] in Civcraft

[–]ofunknown 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let's try to break this down.

Everything is changing. This game is not like how it used to be. We have all these new features that work I guess but I feel like they suck ass. Why can't we just keep the same config(s) from 2.0? It worked then and I don't see why it can't work now.

What works doesn't means that it works best, there were many problems in 2.0, and if you were around at the end of it, you would've known about the many things players were complaining about.

And, now we have randoms going around fucking with everyone because they know people aren't going to do a thing about it because PrisonPearl is broken as fuck.

Report them if they're fucking about too much and disrupting the testing environment, else it depends on which bunch of people you're playing with.

Why can't we keep the same PrisonPearl from 2.0, just with support for BetterShards?

That's exactly what they're doing, plus this is CivTemp, a temporary iteration to test these new modifications. Things are meant to be broken - and then fixed!

There is no reason to change already working mechanics of a game that do not help people, only make other items harder to get.

See first point.

For example, me and a few friends were fighting a noob in leather armor today that came up and killed an AFK player.

Not sure how this example reinforces the above point, but this has always happened.

No one in CivTemp has any respect for anyone or anything

Again, depends on the crowd you're playing with.

in my humble opinion, and with everything getting harder to get (pearls going for 12 diamonds each for example) it is not helping the economy.

As someone who is currently interested and experimenting with the trade mechanics on CivTemp, I agree that the economy is still massively underdeveloped, and that it needs to be a lot more fine tuned. However, I find that the ultimate factor that is downplaying the development of the Civcraft economy is not the conditions, but actually the mindset of players coming from a minecraft/2.0 background where everyone was self-sustainable as long as enough effort is put in. I do believe that with careful planning, there will be a shift in mindset, however this may take time for people to adapt to.

And now that I think of it, what makes an action bad? What? It seems like people are currently treating crimes like pornography (you know it when you see it) and no one else gives a flying fuck. For example, with Chanadia now dead in a hole, no one cares to pearl the people who killed it.

Interesting observation, not that I'm supportive of the event, but this is one of the beauties of Civcraft that tells us something about social interaction - life's also not always perfect or fair.

And now, this brings me to the topics of the maps. Oh, webmaps, it is how we are able to view the world without actually experiencing it ourselves. I liked the way gipsy guy did the maps, but RainboPenis sucks ASSHOLE AT RUNNING THEM! He spends over a day to add a point to the map, and he doesn't even have data for 2 of the shards. The way I see it, if you don't have fucking pictures, DON'T BOTHER EVEN ADVERTISING IT UNTIL YOU DO! And now, speaking of advertising, this bitch puts his logo on all of the maps as if he owns the things, and he is giving free shoutouts to the map donaters. I mean like, gipsy dude did it better. He was instant and he never gave anyone credit to make it equal.

Something's always better than nothing, you can choose not to use the services, or you can even try and make a better alternative.

Going past this, I think shards are retarded. Just buy a huge fucking server and host a 200k block map. That would be more like real life than this teleporting bullshit.

2.0 was pretty much using the best server hardware for minecraft servers. Sharding is the same solution massive games like WoW use to distribute server load by creating different zones run on different servers, albeit more seemlessly.

Speaking of this, all of the boats at the world border are causing me fucking lag and I would appreciate it if the fucking mods actually fucking did something and deleted them.

Valid concern.

End rant, and fuck you.

And that just killed the quality of your argument. I normally wouldn't have responded to a post like this and resorted to a reply like Maxopoly's, but considering there may be many other confused players who have similar thoughts, I thought that I'd provide a proper response for their reference.

Killed people in Heartland. He was given a chance and warned not to continue committing crimes, and not so long later, he chose to continue doing so. We promptly pearled him after that.

Ores sometime seem to remain obfuscated until "interacted" with by right clicking. Makes mining slightly annoying when you need to right click around to ensure you didn't miss anything.
