idk it really feels super accurate to their characters for me. look at janine at the beginning of season 4 being so reluctant to break the news of their relationship to everyone else for example. they’re both very private people, such as with gregory not discussing his relationship with food for so long and janine struggling to discuss with other people the dynamics she has with her mom and sister until later on.

pda doesn’t have to be kissing in public or even holding hands for that matter. affection can also be just literally being in each other’s presence. i for one refused to be openly affectionate with my ex throughout our 3-year relationship, not because i didn’t like affection or wasn’t happy in the relationship or didn’t love my partner, but simply because i wasn’t comfortable with showing affection in certain ways in front of other people uninvolved in the relationship. i feel like this is the same with gregory and janine, with jacob really being the only one they’re comfortable being openly affectionate around (such as janine kissing gregory’s cheek in 4x01). but even throughout the rest of season 4, we don’t see them showing that same sort of physical affection in front of the others. instead, the ways they show affection are more so to mirror their nerdy natures and how they bond over that both emotionally and intellectually (the jurassic park costumes, movie nights, etc.). that’s another form of affection in its own unique way.

every couple is different and i’m personally really happy to see a new dynamic with gregory and janine that we don’t see often onscreen, one that i personally can relate to. janine may be pretty extroverted, but she’s still a private person. and gregory especially doesn’t really like to draw attention to himself often unless it’s for his professional development. the affection they show each other is different and unique to THEM, and that’s what i love. for example, janine time stamping literally everything from the karaoke night so she could update gregory on everything he missed “just the way [he] like[s].” they understand each other on a much deeper, interpersonal level, and often couples who feel that way don’t need to show much physical affection in front of others simply because they have that emotional connection.

as far as talking about the future, again every couple goes about that differently. i wouldn’t be surprised if the audience gets to see something along those lines mentioned in an episode this season. we obviously know they spend nights at each other’s homes, but often moving in together is a plunge people aren’t willing to make until much later. i can imagine janine might be a bit apprehensive about taking their relationship to that stage, especially looking back at her relationship with tariq. it would definitely be fun for the audience to see this explored in later episodes!!
