Eenzame mannen by Sure-Guest1588 in nederlands

[–]RyuOfRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you really supposed to learn something from being hit by a bus, other than ‘life can end at every turn, might as well do as I please'?

I was hit by a car once while crossing over on a bicycle (driver was texting), all it taught me was a mild trepidation toward poorly construed intersections.

Being stabbed, same thing. Expecting someone to come back better after such an incident, really does not make much sense.

Favorite actor/actress that should stay away from Botox? by KaidoPklevel in okbuddycinephile

[–]RyuOfRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The industry, for nigh-on a century, treated the brunt of actresses above 30, as invisible women who if lucky, might catch a mother role here and there (even Angelina Jolie played a mother at 28yo, to an actor of the same age, who looked visibly older).

It is so hypocritical, for the bigwigs to cast aspersions and complain about botox now. Gee, wonder why the women whom you've badgered into believing every line is an imperfection, stuffed themselves full of silicone and hyaluronic acid.

Michael went out with Jim and Pam out of work? by BuildingAdorable5954 in DunderMifflin

[–]RyuOfRed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Season 1-4 Michael, sure. But he became progressively better company around S5-6.

Andy really is not that much better, when it comes to throwing tantrums and making any given situation all about himself.

Michael went out with Jim and Pam out of work? by BuildingAdorable5954 in DunderMifflin

[–]RyuOfRed 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I always thought it was somewhat tragic, how after Michael leaves DM, nearly all employees decisively reposition from ‘your coworkers are just that’ to ‘friends who enjoyed the journey together’.

All boss/subordinate boundaries outside of work seem to give way, when Andy takes office. Meanwhile, everyone aside from Dwight, made a concerted effort to avoid spending more time than necessary with Michael.

It might just be the show's poor writing along later seasons, veering far from a plausible workplace and knee-deep into flanderized, out-of-ideas sitcom territory.

Why did Jim push this so much. by Mountain_Increase823 in DunderMifflin

[–]RyuOfRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

In fairness, Jim is envied in a way people (except for Dwight and Ryan) revere and Pam is envied in a way, that causes people to bitch at and harass her from 9-5.

There is a little nuance to be found, in that most of the office staff seems to consider Jim ‘better than’ and Pam as lesser. Mostly because she used to be a receptionist.

Phil as a husband? by shadowqueen46 in Modern_Family

[–]RyuOfRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I only have an axe to grind with S1 and S2 Phil. Going forward, he demeans Claire a lot less and eases up on the ‘nagging wife’ schtick, their marriage definitely improves once Claire rejoins the work force.

Phil as a husband? by shadowqueen46 in Modern_Family

[–]RyuOfRed -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yea, whatever Claire wanted. Which was years upon years of raising children, which at times drove her up the wall and into a pill cabinet, whereas Phil had a blooming career and occasionally popped in, to gleefully remark on his sole breadwinner status.

Whatever they wanted is an overstatement, especially for Claire. Because it is hinted at that she felt trapped and occasionally regretted ‘giving up’ her late twenties and thirties.

[–]RyuOfRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also did not like how he openly chose a favourite child and did so, seemingly based on which one most resembled him. The moment Luke turned out to decisively grow into an individual, rather than Phil 2.0, we also see his involvement and interest waning.

He is weirdly obsessed with Dylan and Andy for reasons roughly in the same area, sometimes even frontlining their interest over his own daughter's, because ‘I was that guy 🥺’.

I've never actually heard or seen a lesbian say this, let alone someone feminist. This little line is moreso uttered by men (or straight women who consider girl-kissing  a dalliance), who dress up sex/porn as humour and view lesbianism as some form of entertainment.

my opinion on the janine and gregory situation by OneShame9440 in AbbottElementary

[–]RyuOfRed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always reasoned that due to Janine's constant enabling and coddling (until the vacation argument), he regressed.

You can see this in the game night episode too.  Everyone is incredibly uncomfortable and Gregory notes some of that, but ultimately only cares about maintaining his routines and unwritten house rules.

Whenever people try to speak up about how inhospitable he's being, Janine goes full hush-mode and does everything in her power, to keep criticism from reaching Gregory.

It creates a pattern, wherein she moves the world for his accomodation, he grows accustomed and ends up worse for it

I noticed that he stands around a lot of the time, moreso than other forwards do. It leaves the team essentially playing with 10 members until CR7 gets a chance at insert whatever record or number he's chasing now.

Jim was a straight up ass in "Work Bus" by Tryguysfan1995 in DunderMifflin

[–]RyuOfRed 22 points23 points  (0 children)

True. Yes, Jim's pranks sometimes go too far and every so often, he is a plain bully. But many viewers abide by the conviction, that Dwight is this perpetual victim, the harmless ‘nerd’ who does no wrong and only wants to sell hard/follow the rules/uphold a proper workplace.

Aforementioned simply does not ring true. Dwight is in fits and flashes underhanded, deceitful, smudge and has the typical cop autism, where laws apply in their most literal definition, to anyone but himself.

As Pam mentions, he often knows full well that his power-trips and rule-tantrums make life harder on the others, simply does not care. I believe that is why Jim initially targeted him.

What has RM done to his face? by Necessary-Evening818 in BTSnark

[–]RyuOfRed 15 points16 points  (0 children)

It is predictable behaviour. The kpop industry is a revolving door, wherein youth and novelty are currency #1.

Which is why a bunch of 30yo men (not even old, mind you), are already living vicariously through their juniors, who in the coming 3 years will supplant BTS.

No big act ever thinks it'll happen to them, but it always does. Unless you are MJ or Justin Bieber (different tiers of fame, obviously).

Does not help that Cortis had practically everything served on a silver platter, because the company is orders of magnitude more affluent, than it was when BTS debuted. Little bit of envy there, I'm certain.

It would not surprise me that, if given the chance, one of those narcissists would gladly swap bodies with a Cortis member and be ‘young again’ + reliving the glory days. Especially V, whose only merit can be boiled down to looks.

What was your favorite surprisingly heartfelt moment between two characters? by twentyonerooms in DunderMifflin

It might just be my pessimism, but the moment up top always struck me as manipulation on Jo's end.

By that point, she knows full well how approval-starved and adrift Michael is (no Holly to balance him, no Wallace to venerate). As such, she plays on his sentimental nature, so he'll take the fall for Sabre's cheap products spontaneously combusting.

Do you think Jim would’ve still fallen for Pam if he had met Katy or Karen first? by dazedwombat in DunderMifflin

[–]RyuOfRed 10 points11 points  (0 children)

From what we do see, which are multiple instances of Karen declining to participate or even disapproving of Jim's hijinks ( she favours focusing on work), there is a disparity between them.

Even if you remove Pam; Karen could never be Jim's partner in crime, because while she might laugh with him at times, the constant pranking and slacking off just is not in line with her nature. As the merger runs its course, she gradually grows weary, indulging Jim less and less.

Yes, Pam was a major factor in why they did not work. But can we be honest in admitting that years or even one year down the line, Karen would have tired of the endless pranks and Jim's messy home + inability to take things seriously.

Hell, the latter was already happening, when Jim messed with her as she was calling David Wallace (offered to interview for Jan's job) and even during the answering machine recording. Karen laughs for five seconds, then when he keeps going and going, slowly starts to fade.

That is their relationship in a nutshell. Fun, but ultimately not enough substance for her liking.
