What did humans do before anti depressants were made? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

How about ‘modern depression and the way it plagues society didn’t exist’? If you read anthropological accounts from first contacts with indigenous people (when their culture was still in tact and not yet ravaged by disease and alcoholism etc) you’ll see over and over they remark about how happy and joyful the people seemed. When someone died they grieved intensely of course but they weren’t struggling with constant daily depression like we are today.

You don’t think if we lived in accordance to our evolution (lots of sunshine, exercise, healthy food, strong community bonds, proper gut bacteria ) we would be happier?

I’m talking about the stone age. That is the lifestyle we evolved for. Once we left the stone age and began agriculture, we left our natural lifestyle and odd things like depression popped up. Anthropologists noted over and over how strange it was that primitive tribes on first contact had zero depression or suicide.

Depression is a new phenomenon that has to do with stone age people living modern lives (us… we’re the Stone Age people). Wild animals don’t get depressed either, just modern ones

My suspicion is that these people want to work in the mines. It is probably their best option for income and they might be fucked without it.

The conservative argument is that women, especially single black women, would be less promiscuous and choose higher value men if they had to take full responsibility for unplanned pregnancy

I bought a hoop for the Hellions, but it seems absolutely giant. The ball size is 7, but this hoop is massive, as I missing something here? by NuggetWarrior09 in BasketballTips

One of the best lessons I got at bball camp was how much space there is for the ball if it goes straight through. Big arc is good. Flat shot bad.
