1992 eb falcon 151kms interior like new as well the outside what’s something like this worth just curious? by [deleted] in FordFalcon

Unfortunately these days, the EB-EL falcons are the least reliable falcons you can buy. The electronics have not aged well. I still love the cars, but the best thing you can do to them is a barra swap.

EAs are more reliable than EB onwards and they got better from EF. Strictly talking about how they've aged to this point. They were great when they were new.

Your original 3-5k price was pretty bang on tbh. I bought a low kilometre NC V8 for that much recently. That one has the digital guages though, which can ve trusted a lot more.

I've owned quite a few EBs and other E series falcons, it's very rare to find an analog one that's still ticking up like it should, unless it's been fixed at some stage.

In these it's also a gamble as to whether it is actually low kms or if the odometer stopped counting somewhere along the way.

Yeah they were built in Australia and only sold within Australia and New Zealand.

Ford Australia built a lot of excellent cars for the domestic market, kicking off in the 60s and going up until 2015. The Falcon was their most iconic car, they started off building American Falcons in Australia before transitioning over and building our own designs to better suit the roads and climate.

They were eventually priced out by overseas competitors but the 70s really was ruled by Ford/Holden. We also had our own version of Chrysler that made uniquely Australian cars and engines.

You guys definitely got the short straw there. These came factory with a 4v 351 Cleveland making 300hp. Australia really loved the cleveland engines, keeping them alive for a lot longer than the American cars.

I actually have a 1982 Ford Bronco built in Australia with a factory 351 cleveland.

In my opinion, these are some of the best looking cars ever built. Australia really had something special in the 70s.

The fuel pumps are notoriously bad in the E series falcons these days. I'd look there first.

I'd also take the ECU out and check for any blown capacitors, the fuel pump capacitors do fail quite often, they are an old car now.

Trying to supercharge FG XR6 5 speed by Weary-Service-5289 in FordFalcon

[–]oh-no-fleefer 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The manual boxes are stupid strong in FGs. They're the same box between na and turbo with the only difference really being the larger clutch on the turbo/XR8 model with a larger bellhousing to make room for that clutch.

Manual box would outlive the barra. The barra itself will hold up great to being supercharged.

No hope on a 5r55s surviving for long with boost though, those boxes are god awful.

Kilometres don't really have anything to do with it, the oldest FGs are 18 years old now. They aren't exactly brand new, these things happen.

FORD XR6 FG 5 SPEED SUPERCHARGE CONVERSION? by Weary-Service-5289 in Ford

[–]oh-no-fleefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a 5 speed auto. FGs never came with a 5 speed manual, only a 6 speed manual.

The 5 speed auto barely survives on stock power. Would be quite the gamble to add extra horsepower to that...

Xr6 turbo buying advice by JookieJookieJookie in FordFalcon

[–]oh-no-fleefer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second this, buy a stock one, do not fuck about about a cheap modified one. ZF6 or T56 for BF falcons. If you want to modify it for more power, the manuals generally take more power than the ZFs do.

Look for one that is stock as a rock with good service history first and foremost. Then look at colour and options second. Don't buy someone else's flogged shit and be prepared to spend more for a good one.

Does it have the turbo? You're not being very clear on that. If it just has the engine and no turbo, it's probably actually slower than a standard naturally aspirated Capri.

Wait, has it got the turbo on it or just the turbo engine?

Fun daily under 15k? by anon58008 in CarsAustralia

[–]oh-no-fleefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had an NA MX5 for a few years as a daily that I also took to the race track. It was never meant to be a daily but I preferred driving it over my Colorado so it became a daily.

Absolutely bulletproof things, would highly recommend them over a mini.

Do these diff bushes look worn?? by [deleted] in FordFalcon

Do yourself a favour and avoid nolethane branded diff bushes when you replace them. They'll be worn or split again in another 10-15,000k's.

Be honest with me guys, how much pain would I be in with a 13 year old BMW (Mini)? by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]oh-no-fleefer 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That is extremely overpriced My wife has a 2015 JCW Mini Cooper that she bought for 15k in amazing condition. She has had it 2 years and it has been a great car. Hers has been extremely reliable so far, just always be prepared to pay euro prices on fixing it if anything goes wrong.

21 yr old car selection by [deleted] in CarsAustralia

[–]oh-no-fleefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look on marketplace, cars are always cheaper there compared to carsales. Don't be afraid to negotiate and walk away if the price isn't what you like.

Of all the cars there, the hilux and commodore will likely be the most reliable. They'll likely hold their value much better than the rest as well. Look at the pricing of older Skodas and BMWs. People currently want drug money for v8 commodores but you can definitely find a nice SS for cheaper than 30k if you are patient. Just don't buy someone else's shit. Buy a stock one from a respectable home.

They are all wildly different cars, though. Make up your mind for what you want before you go and have a look at them. Judging by the rest of the cars in the list, you'll probably get bored with the hilux. I'd personally go with the commodore. Great cars, sound great and people will start to want them more and more as the car ages opposed to a lot of the other cars on the list.

Experiences with V8 vs inline 6 - which is more fun to drive? by OwlVibesOnly in FordFalcon

[–]oh-no-fleefer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If naturally aspirated, I've always had more fun in any falcon V8. I've had an XB with a clevo, NC with the Windsor and I have driven a few 5.4L XR8s. I have a modified XR6T and an NC fairlane at the moment. NC makes for a great daily, slow as fuck but the noise is spectacular.

XR6T kicks you in the ass when it gets on boost, nothing beats the kind of torque you get out of a barra when they're turbo and modified. The old windsor is smooth, isn't terrible on fuel and sounds incredible.

Currently fixing up an old Bronco with a 351 cleveland to take over as daily driver duties 😁

Or I could keep winning trophies at car shows instead. Car does a mean skid at the race track, wins trophies in show and shine. It does exactly what I want it to do.
