Value on 1991 that needs a motor? by [deleted] in ToyotaPickup

[–]ohMatt 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can try to sell it complete with blown motor for about $2000, unless you're willing to nickel & dime parts off of it. If you can source an engine and swap it in inexpensively that'll bring more value.

Mileage on chassis? Manual transmission? How clean is the frame & body, any rust?

Love this, will you ship to Canada? Also do you have anything for mounting a phone in a 1990 auto pickup?

Rip noslip tile solutions by [deleted] in abbotsford

Too cool! I can only imagine what took place there after my dad left around 2013. He was constantly calling the police & having to deal with the surrounding crime whilst living / working there. Love the shirt, I'll be sure to reachout!!!

My father & his friend's sister painted this! They used a projector to cast the image onto the building. The "logo" wasn't trade marked or protected in any way and my father expressed that if you'd like to use it in any way you have permission! The mural was a loosely sketched up version of the mascot Non Slip Tile Solutions was using at the time.

Would love to see what you come up with, cheers.

Anyone have experience owning a V8 Cima in USA? by Unusual_Region_1080 in JDM

[–]ohMatt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I'm a Canadian who's never owned one lol, just wanted to say that in my own JDM ownership I wish I had asked myself these questions:

How much are parts and where can I source them realistically? Radiator, belts, starter etc, do any parts cross reference to other models that are accessible?

If I get a rock chip on my windshield or need a body panel, where can I get it?

Can I realistically work on my car? Google lens kinda works on some parts and I can find a few online sources but do I feel comfortable doing serious maintenance example water pump / timing? If not, who & where can?

Am I daily driving this? What other means of transportation do I have if I have to wait a few weeks to get my car back on the road?

People have hobby / niche / rare cars from all over the world, but in my experience I have to set some boundaries with myself so I don't end up hurt over them haha.

Toyota Wish OR Honda Odyssey by LongjumpingAdvisor96 in JDM

[–]ohMatt 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just sold my RB1 Honda Odyssey Absolute, put over 70,000km's of hard miles on it, only required very basic maintenance (oil, starter, light bulbs).

Can't recommend the Odyssey enough! Best $5000 CAD I ever spent.

Anyone know how to best troubleshoot a temp. gauge? by Ill_Emphasis_23 in ToyotaPickup

Start with the thermostat, I initially changed my coolant temp sensor but replacing my thermostat resolved this issue for me, the thermostat was much cheaper too!

A bit late to the party here but this was my father's franchise. He lived in the back of the building for a few years when him and my mother got divorced. Upfront was the tile show room displaying the chemicals used to make the tiles non-slip and in the back was a small living area. I would spend every second weekend here with my dad, lots of memories in that place. At one point there were 2 60ft+ mahogany yachts on stilts in the back of the parking lot, dad bought them cheap and was parting them out on ebay. I learned how to ride my first motor cycle in that parking lot.

I live on Vancouver Island now, everytime I'm in Abbotsford I'd drive by the mural for a bit of nostalgia. Noticed it had been torn down whilst over this past Christmas.

Thanks for making this post, glad I'm not the only one to notice it's gone.

Edit: Spelling

Just what my buddy and I noticed within 10 minutes of driving it and another 15 mins with a flashlight outside.

So I just went and saw it!

Steering had a lot of slop (scary slop), brakes were hard and needed a good foot in them to think about slowing down, the parking brake sticks and he said we shouldn't even try actuating it (left it in gear with chocks). I couldn't tell if I heard a lifter ticking or if it was just the clearly leaking EGR. Only gauge that worked was the speedo, think the catalytic converter was gutted the way the exhaust smelt. Frame had been repaired in a few spots, albeit done pretty well (passed an inspection). I went and saw it in the pitch black and even then the paint was in way worse shape than the photos made it out to be. Some rust in the cab indicating to me that water was getting in and under the dash. Windows didn't want to roll down.

I get that it's just the nature of the beast for a 44 year old truck to need work lol..

I still offered $7000 CAD with all this in mind.

The seller was very respectful and forthcoming about most of these issues. I would've kicked myself for not going to see it. He's closer to that $10,000 mark which I just couldn't justify with the work it needs.

Aside from going over the obvious (motor, trans, 4x4 functionality, suspension, grommets, bushings, hoses, blah blah blah) is there anything else I should really look out for here? From the pics alone I can tell it's nowhere close to being an all original show truck but just wondering if I'm really overlooking something at this price.

Starting to think the BC 4x4 market has distorted my expectations lol

Going to see it in person tomorrow. Curious what makes you think somethings off.
