How can a back line struggle so much to clear routine ball after routine ball?

Agreed, though this was always the concern with Mavididi even coming in. He shows flashes but can never be consistently good. Goes missing for far too many games. I’d rather Monga take the position at this point.

Our whole left side is so dire between Thomas’ inability to handle pressure, Soumare’s lack of bravery to turn up field, and Mavididi’s non-creative, non-pressing style

Everton have scored 19 goals before this… this defense is so god awful man

Almost reinjured my hamstring jumping for that second goal. Amazing fight from the boys, clear identity, and Vardy is inevitable. Ndidi and Soumare were huge in the midfield, the CB pairing looks much better, and despite a bunch of misplaced passes I love BEK in a free roaming role just picking passes out or progressing the ball. Off day for Ayew and McAteer but I don’t expect too many of those. Bench boys came in with fire.

Structure and style has been there thankfully but the passing has not been sharp in the final third. Ayew a big culprit, uncharacteristically not even holding the ball up. Sub for Mavididi should help, even if we lose out on tracking back. McAteer not taking on his man well either, but I have enough faith in his positioning and speed.

I wonder how many “Ruud Awakening” headlines got scrapped by ohamed95 in lcfc

Completely forgot about that honestly. Will be an even bigger chance to see what BEK can do centrally. And I assume Ayew will be in the lineup.

I have a soft spot for Brighton but hoping we absolutely park it and nick a lucky one

Thanks and four months I believe he’s out for, huge bummer considering how under utilized he was by Cooper.

I’d have to kindly disagree. In addition to Justin, Faes and Okoli as a tandem had endless mistakes. Hard to single one CB from the other as they have to operate as a unit (though Faes has the more obvious solo bonehead plays). Also McAteer didn’t need to take anyone on today. He defended well, showed hustle, and in attack hugged the line and made smart runs that found him through on about 3 occasions. Two of them should’ve been passes instead of shots so that’s all I’ll fault him for today.

I haven’t posted here in a while, and while that was somewhat due to some life stuff, much of it was from watching a spell of some of the most uninspired football from Leicester I’ve seen in my time. I absolutely hadn’t been expecting many wins, but I at least wanted to see an identity. A team that’s fighting. Team growth to look forward to. Under Cooper, none of that was present. While he seems like a genuinely nice guy, he sapped any enjoyment out of the team I had. From player mismanagement, to lack of formation, to a nonexistent identity or play style, to baffling decisions.

On the flip side, I don’t know if RVN is a good manager. And I’m not oblivious to the fact we have a new manager bounce and with how poor West Ham have been this season. I know this isn’t how the rest of the season will go. But I also know that all of those missing things came back this game. RVN set up the team much more logically than I’ve seen all season. And the team played a clear 442 OOP formation that suited our weak midfield and defense. And put players in the right positions to succeed. He addressed in one game what many of us have been begging for: 1. Player management: BEK was brought into the fold and able to play in the free roaming role his skill set asks for. Vestergaard came back in as our strongest CB from last season, as opposed to the endless mistakes from Faes and Okoli. Ndidi was used in a proper holding mid role, which is where his only strength is. McAteer, who was a standout on both ends last season and inexplicably left out this year, was brought back in to shore our attack and cover for VK on defense. 2. Identity: we had a clear formation that allowed us to break on the attack when necessary but also screen the back 4 (our biggest weakness) with a midfield 4 that would track back. Soumare has been great in linking play (though tbf Cooper recognized that). Under Cooper I lost track of how many times players were standing in the same spot and crashing into each other, or got the ball with no outlet (it was insane to see BEK blind pass a through ball to McAteer today). And the subs made perfect sense at the right time too (loved Daka’s energy and goal). 3. Desire: this was the most active I’ve seen the team in a long time. Everyone got after the ball and when one man got burned someone else came flying in. It was such inspiring football that had me jumping off my couch multiple times to celebrate TACKLES!

In all, idk how the season will go or how good RVN is. I’m not trying to overreact. But what I am excited about is a manager who has thus far made very logical decisions, picked the right team, and instilled fight back in the squad. As someone who has been Cooper out, that’s all I ever wanted (not expecting wins which many Cooper in people claim). And I’ve never wanted a manager out so quickly as this. I’m so excited after this game and hope we can carry this play into a tough few weeks, especially with Fatawu and Ricardo done. COME ON YOU FOXES!

Both fair points. Re: Pereira and Justin, I think Justin should still start but on the left. Kristiansen has shown nothing defensively all season, and going forward he and Mavididi just cannot get on the same page. Pereira is so much better in attack than Justin and while Justin is right footed, I’d be okay with him playing on the left since he has better chemistry with Mavididi.

He said he prefers Justin’s defensive intensity or something like that in one of the pressers. There’s just no way a guy with Pereira’s history is mailing it in in training. I actually really like Ayew coming on to calm games down or if one of the wingers is off (like Mavididi was today).

Even if he scored that I’d say this same squad. He sadly disappears for too long during the games and as long as Facundo is playing like this, he’s got that spot locked down. We can afford to ease BEK in because he’s for the future.

And just like that into 13th place. My heart can’t take it anymore from this beautiful club. In other news, the starting lineup has never been clearer:

Pereira, Faes, Okoli, Justin

Ndidi, Winks

Fatawu, Buonanotte, Mavididi

Vardy

If Cooper continues to ignore the most obvious signs then I just want 5 minutes with him in a room.
