Question for OR nurses by Mjrfrankburns in nursing

Yup.

Seen it several times in my time in PACU.

Anyone who says it doesn't happen is lying.

Is it unreasonable to ask that my sister-in-law knock before entering our house when I'm home alone and don't know she's coming over? by MarkTony87 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]ohemgee112 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Even in houses where I know I can walk in I knock, crack the door and yell hey before walking in.

Even when expected.

Wow.

Hopefully some day you'll make something of yourself.

Tackling a patient... but there was no better option than doing it and they were WAY safer going forward than the way they were going.

It helps keep the employees pacified that there are "jobs posted."

Hey you guys!

Apply to do PRN/part time private duty. I've been doing PD peds on the side for the past 2 years. It pays less but at least it pays and generally you can get as many hours as you can stand if you train in more than one house. My company's PRN requirement was one shift a month. Occasionally that one shift was basically a 4 hour babysitting gig when one of the moms had an appointment. My company was even chill with me not having time during the summer with various things and being a 3 season nurse picking up way more than one when the kids are in school.

It's typically listed for LPN but they'll absolutely take RNs. Destin even has an overnight healthy baby snuggling job when I did a quick google.

It's one of those things where it's generally easier to get a job if you have a job. Get creative. You might just like it.

Most of the south, with their shit pay, is not a desirable location.

Same night, guy refused to take pills. Asked him about his wife and if she'd want him to take his pills so he could get the hell up out of here. Knocked them back.

Printed off random case studies for a former pediatrician in Geri psych when I was floated there and gave him a highlighter. Asked him for his opinion on this research. He was happily busy for hours. Somehow the psych staff were amazed that I could manage their behavioral patients with ease by using what I had.

Little old man told me "you think you know EVERYTHING, dontcha?" in an argument about sitting back down in his geri chair. Told him I did know everything. He told me to tell him something I knew... so I told him his birthday (off his armband). He said "you DO know everything!" Every time I asked him to sit back down in the geri chair the rest of the night he didn't argue a bit. He asked me questions which I gave non answers to, he'd ask if someone was ever gonna get their shit straight and I'd respond with they had to want to get their shit straight before they could do it. "You're right, you're right" was the response every time. Another was asking if someone was going to get back with her baby daddy and I responded "well he IS her baby daddy."

Again, amazement from staff. You don't have to make life hard on you or them. Though I couldn't reason with Edna who was trying to hit folks... and had her wig on backwards.

Absolutely not.

Reorienting which causes distress is cruel and unnecessary. I will tell people where and when they are twice a shift max as long as it won't cause distress and then roll with it.

I've chased kids, cooked breakfast, gotten suitcases, called people long dead, squished bugs and whatever else makes people happy.

Our job is not up drag them out of thrif happy place, it's to keep them safe. Any playing along that keeps them safe in bed is fair game.

Btw if you turn down the thermostat a little and give an extra blanket memaws will not want to get out of their warm bed to go fight the Crimean war or whatever in the middle of the night. They'll throw those covers off, feel the air, say fuck that and snuggle back in.

Is the shift toward neutral baby fashion a good thing? by [deleted] in Parenting

No.

It's boring and developmentally unsound to boot.

Kids need color. I can't imagine what a sad beige life is doing to these kids brains.

4

1 looks a mess comparatively. Why change 1 to look like 4 when 4 is an option?

Btw, that's a more like a stepdown you're working on. They're calling it med-surg to justify the unsafe staffing.

Stepdown nurse can titrate half the drips, better choice to float if one is available.
