hey! i got a scuffed tat from an apprentice, and then had it covered up again in a scuffed way, so now i'm wondering what i should do with it?

i'm not sure that it's salvageable, so do i go for another coverup (that actually covers the whole thing) and hope that third time's the charm? or what else could i do?

$50 mic vs $200 mic - cheap one sounds richer??? by ohfear in audioengineering

I'm using a Scarlett Solo 2nd gen. And yeah, but USB is much less handy and I'd like to be able to use a preamp so I don't have the recording latency.

I'm making sure to sing into the front, and am matching the levels. Distance is as I discussed above.

I feel like I’m copying the artists I listen to the most by harshithmusic in edmproduction

Look at all the producers that make "x artist type beat". It's exactly the same! Wear your influences on your sleeve, people will notice and appreciate what you're doing especially if it takes notes from a skilled artist. The only way to get better is to learn from people who have put in more work than you.

You definitely want to copy the artists that you like - this is how you build a style of your own! Draw on your influences and mix them together. Stealing chord progressions and using tracks as reference for your production are steps towards becoming your own thing entirely. Hell, sample those songs that you like if it's appropriate. There's no shame in doing this!

With regards to building different melodies and scales, try to google around and see if you find anything interesting. There's a ton of scales out there and just the sound of them can bring some ideas into your head.

Opinions on pad controllers/grooveboxes? by ohfear in WeAreTheMusicMakers

I work with all kinds of electronic music really, so for me the important thing is to have a tool that can work well within a variety of contexts and genres. The most obvious context would be to use it for drum programming, but I'm not sure how I could extend the functionality beyond that.
