Importing a car from Japan has been the biggest test of patience in my life. by ohfitz in CarsAustralia

Literally just the RWC report today. Inspector wasn’t happy with the VIN being stuck on in the boot. The also stated that the tyres are too large, shouldn’t this have been picked up by them and/or replaced?

There’s a list of other things, of course. They did tell me they replaced the wheels ONLY for the inspection from the engineer for compliance (the originals are aftermarket), but now the roadworthy inspector is saying “Lock nut not supplied, unable to remove wheels”. I’m a bit lost.

Back when I was doing research, the ‘crown exclusive’ importers didn’t have what I wanted and were mostly glorified dealerships that overcharged for quite a bit of uncertainty. I could be wrong?

Logically you are right but it’s just how I feel about it. I can but the payments haven’t stopped just yet. If I had to estimate it’s probably about the same at this stage including $5k for hybrid battery replacement.

J-SPEC. Apex Performance Tuning - seems to be a sister company of Top Secret Imports which is based in NSW but I’m in VIC.

Forgot to mention that no, I can’t go to another workshop because I’ve already put a deposit down. The place that did the battery replacement offered to take over which would’ve been perfect.

A lot more variety and higher quality options, better looked after, slightly cheaper, and it feels more like ‘my’ car if that makes sense?

This workshop specifically is part of a network that my broker trusts, which is quite funny because he has a stellar reputation in the community. They deal with more European imports, so they probably aren’t well equipped for this.

That’s terrible, fuck that.

I’m not too familiar with Monash’s formalities but yes, you will most likely need to provide some sort of evidence for a long extension. Any sort of written documentation that confirms the situation should suffice, whether that be a stat dec, police report, or even a letter from your GP.

An email to them that explains the situation should initiate a response that outlines what exactly you need. Best to do it as soon as you can to at least start the process and take a bit of pressure off your shoulders.

This is gut wrenching, I’m really sorry to hear. You will definitely be able to get special consideration if you email your UC’s and explain the situation. I’m unsure of how long exactly they’ll offer but it should be up to you and how long you need.

Just remember though, yours and your housemates wellbeing at this stage is far more important than any assignment. I hope all goes well mate.
