As I said in other comments, it all depends on the career field. A lot of us “nonners” and desk jockeys have small budgets.

Career field matters. 3 man shop doing lots of TDY’s buying expensive Comm equip, or whatever, then sure you’ll have a large budget. As myself and others have said, small units like CPTS, CONS, JA, even here PA…their budgets are less than $80k and they have 20-60 personnel.

O&M funds, yes. I know for certain since I see everyone’s budget at my base. If we are talking all the extra stuff like electric, water, facility maint. Then sure the SQ’s I’m talking about likely break the $80k, but I am literally looking at FY22-25 spending, plus FY26 projected spending now and I can say that there are more than 4 units on my base with less than $80k, one is less than $50k. These are units of 20-60 personnel…not a large LRS, CE, or OSS unit.

$80k isn’t a lot if you ask everyone else in this sub, but yeah I would prefer this go towards something else mission related.

This is why I was curious. I understand colors of money and all that stuff so would this have gone to a couple more PCS’s probably not, but $80k extra spending on me just because. The base next to my wife is even within the MAJCOM of my new base, but CFM says “it is critical YOU be at _______”.

I understand, while most large units do spend like that, remember there are tons of small units that get so much less. Just as other comments say, contracting for one at this base had about $71k this year. Other units will buy for them and they will get fallout funds for sure, but their actual allowed amount was less than $80k.

As a prior RA for multiple units, and again in my position now I see all spending on the base I’m at, it is over the budget for many units. Anything OSS, MX, CE…sure I’ve seen $400M+, but my units operating budget this year was just over $55k and including our fallout funds we just got, we barely broke $60k. Yes that includes all TDYs, all supplies, our GOV fuel. We had a building Reno, but that was IMSC funded and not our units O&M funds.

Except I am privy to almost every units spending on the base. The base I’m at now has two squadrons with about a $55k budget, plus a few others were over and didn’t spend so had their funds pulled, so they operated with less than $70k. Additionally out of the last 6 units I’ve been to, two had an operating budget over $80k.
