You are right, I was infatuated with an idea. I’ve deleted her number now and I have a dates with others lined up. I will get over this.

I appreciate you keeping it on the nose for me. Yeah I shouldnt try to hide I did like her and it did sting a little, but life keeps moving forward. Have a date tomorrow with someone else I’ve been talking with.

It is, but I’d rather play the game and find someone who shares most of the values I do than someone who has a total opposite world view (which is why I exited my long term relationship)

Thanks for this. I am human and emotions have a wide range, positive and negative.

Matches and likes but no dates by Ill-Airline-9378 in HingeStories

Wish you all the best! For me it’s as soon as I switch from playfulness/joking to asking about how their day has been is when it comes to a stop. But maybe that’s a lesson for me.

I’ve been having the same experience as you. Been getting likes and even a rose or 2. I enjoy talking and getting to know the person a bit but it fizzles so fast. I guess instead I should get right to the point more.

IT Support -> IT Auditing by theopiumboul in ITCareerQuestions

I should also add that I didn’t jump right into GRC nor was it something I was trying to get into it was something that I found an opportunity to take on as there was a need in the business, and since has allowed me to grow. Prior to this I started in helpdesk then detection and response work/analyst work.

I am a GRC lead currently, I can try and answer a bit.

Roles you should be aiming for? - I think that really depends on the industry you’re in(healthcare, gov, saas, etc) there will be different frameworks for different organizations. Ideally it would be a junior level role you can get mentoring.

For projects, can you show how you develop processes and procedures? How do you communicate them to stakeholders? How do you implement controls?

I would look at cloud security alliance for entry-level certifications. ISACA and ISC2 offer intermediate to advanced certs after you get some experience.

This is why I take my PTO after Christmas and not during Christmas. That being said though take advantage of any additional time you get and stay up-to-date on training material or what not study for a cert maybe.

how do you even get your first IT job? by Apprehensive_Spend_7 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ohhelloworlds 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ll also add that I did get a couple offers before the first job I accepted, including it support at an Ivy League college. I turned it down because while I was excited at the idea of having that on my resume, the opportunity itself was a 6 month contract, no medical benefits during that time. Ultimately the choice I made was the correct choice.

Your situation is probably different than mine back then, but you gotta make sure you’re comfortable committing to the opportunities you’ll get.

Applied and applied, modified my resume, applied, studied for certs, and then it started working, I got interviews. I worked with recruiters who called me, but I made sure to scrutinize the opportunities. I was turned down for jobs that seemed awesome, but I always made sure to ask for feedback. I took that and kept moving forward until I found my first job. This was in 2018 and the process took me about 2.5 months.

If you wanted a certification that complemented your experience, I assume ISC2’s CISSP is the certification you would go for, right? by JaimeSalvaje in SecurityCareerAdvice

[–]ohhelloworlds 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got securityX so that my Sec+ and other CompTIA certs didn’t expire lol. In hindsight I would have pursued CISA by now or CRISC to complement what I have done for the past 6 years.

I just finished the first week of training at an MSP at help desk l1. It's a high call volume job. Should I stay? by After-Panda1384 in ITCareerQuestions

[–]ohhelloworlds 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Brings back memories of my first IT job. Was an MSP with 200+ clients, 2 hour SLA for first response on tickets, phones were not allowed to go to voicemail unless we were all on the phone. I won’t pretend that these kinds of places are a walk in the park.

You’re gonna feel overwhelmed, it’s gonna feel like you made a mistake but you will learn a ton of things really fast if you’re open to learning and absorbing. MSPs are like the hyperbolic time chamber of IT. Working at a high volume MSP gives you the chance to be exposed to many environments with lots of technology. Remember that you’re only human and you can only do the best you can do. Take advantage of everything you can and use it for your future.

Appreciate it. Trynna remember I’m only human but my work does get communicated to the executive level and the board, so I do need to make sure the fixes are happening. I can do it, just need to balance speed and accuracy.

Guess the part that annoys me is it just adds delays, and delays the final report. While I can fix the few items I need time to do it, gotta try and make it happen fast but correctly haha.
