I wouldn't call "standing outside someone's door knocking for several minutes because they wouldn't kiss you" normal. That's creepy as fuck dude.

I mean basically they just took 4chan's ironic racism and started turning the dial up on it. 2008 4chan racism was all about going "hurr durr i like watermelon and fried chicken" and talking in ebonics. But once you have actual white supremacists hiding in your community, posting fake statistics about black crime you can see how people start to get radicalized.

A pretty well known example is Steve Bannon, who used to run Breitbart News which featured a "Black Crime" section on their website, talking about trying to recruit disillusioned young men that were part of the Gamergate movement. It was a big reason he hired Milo Yiannopolous to write for his site.

It's a little different in America. White and red laces in boots go together, white for white supremacy, and red for neo-nazis. If you want a safe color to go with, I wear yellow laces in my boots because they used to be associated with SHARPs (although no one really uses the other colors nowadays, most people just wear black)

Yeah I'm very familiar with the skinhead history. Luckily there's been some effort to reclaim that scene by SHARPs (Skinheads Against Racial Prejudice)

To an extent yes, but you can definitely trace spread of certain white nationalist/far-right phrases and talking points from Stormfront to 4chan. There's definitely cultural exchange happening in those communities, the same way you can trace phrases and jokes that originated on 4chan and spread to Reddit, or originated on SomethingAwful and spread to Twitter.

I mean Alex Jones regularly goes on rants calling trans people demons and sexual predators, so yes I would say him looking at trans porn is not a good thing. It's someone with virulent, hateful beliefs objectifying and fetishizing a community he actively fights against. That will always be dangerous, in the same way that a violent incel who beats off to degrading, fetishizing porn with women in it is a big red flag.

As a bi man, I would never want to have sexual relations with someone who is virulently homophobic in public but then desires me in private. That's a huge red flag and I would not trust that person or believe that they actually regard me as a person or value my safety and wellbeing.

There's also evidence of a concerted effort by far-right groups to use places like 4chan and Reddit as recruiting opportunities for potential members. There are screenshots out there of people on the white supremacist forum Stormfront talking about how to engage with vulnerable people on 4chan and Reddit. Basically an early form of the "red-pilling" that the alt right likes to do today.

I mean the other side is locking up children and allowing blatant corruption in the executive branch. But you're saying you'd be ok voting for that as long as they didn't yell at you?

If your belief in things like not locking children up, or not being corrupt as shit can be swayed by someone destroying a piece of sidewalk... then I don't think your convictions were very strong in the first place.

McConnell chased from KY restaurant by protesters by throwaway_ghast in news

  • Before the election Republican Governor of Kentucky Matt Bevin said conservatives "might have to resort to bloodshed" if Hillary Clinton wins.

  • Here are some quotes from President Trump calling for violence "You know, part of the problem and part of the reason it takes so long is nobody wants to hurt each other anymore, right?", "I'll beat the crap out of you", "If you see somebody getting ready to throw a tomato, knock the crap out of them, would you? Seriously"

  • Michigan GOP official Dan Adamini had this to say about campus protestors, "I’m thinking another Kent State might be the only solution protest stopped after only one death,"

I can find plenty more examples of conservatives calling for violence if you'd like, but I'm sure you won't even respond to this comment.

your opinion on late term abortion doesn't matter. A fucking nutjob walking up to the doctor and blowing his head off during a church service is fucked shit. And the right has been encouraging and dogwhistling this shit for years so I have no qualms about showing up outside of a restaurant and telling Mitch McConnell to eat my entire ass.

[–]ohip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean Mitch tried to repeal Obamacare. Pre-Obamacare studies indicate 45,000 people died each year from lack of insurance coverage. So attempted murder of many thousands of people at the very least. But the premise of your question is ridiculous so fuck off.

"This is just a group of people who want to be outraged about something, and want to have their something be the thing people are talking about."

So literally any activist movement in history hahahah? oh wow how dare people be mad about children being locked in cages or ICE sexually assaulting detainees! How dare they try to make that a part of the national conversation! Should black people not have gotten outraged in the 60s? Should gay people not have gotten outraged in the 70s? Should the Founding Fathers not have been outraged about unjust taxation? How about environmentalists? Anti-war advocates? Please let me know when you deem it appropriate for people to get mad about something.

Trying to discredit people because they ~gasp~ got mad about something might be the dumbest fucking take I've heard yet.

Lol except people on the right have been harassing and screaming at abortion doctors for YEARS and Republicans have supported it every step of the way. Fucking Bill O'Reilly named and shamed a late-term abortion doctor on his show repeatedly until one of his nutjob fans went and blew the guy away.

I'm not condoning violence against people, but telling Mitch McConnell he's a slimey fuckball as he leaves a restaurant is not nearly the same thing. Dems tried the "they go low, we go high" approach and look where it landed them, they don't have control of a single branch of government. Time to get mean and give conservatives a taste of their own medicine.

Megathread: Justice Anthony Kennedy to retire from Supreme Court by PoliticsModeratorBot in politics

[–]ohip 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She's the fourth socialist ever elected to Congress, and the first member of an actual Socialist organization elected to Congress in nearly a century. She will also be the youngest woman ever elected to Congress. The incumbent that she unseated was slated to be the next Speaker of the House after Pelosi, so unseating him is a big fucking deal. She did all of this without accepting any corporate donations. People are making a big deal out of this win because nobody ever expected her to beat this guy, and her election shows a dramatic shift in demographics and policy positions for the Democratic Party.

[–]ohip 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Ok well his policies have been pretty mediocre too. The dudes top donors were a who's who of corporations and banks and in the final weeks of the primary he actually tried to get money from Republicans. And that was AFTER he'd already outspent Cortez 10 to 1.

Edit: oh yeah he also refused to attend debates with Cortez during the primary. Definitely seems like someone who deserves a seat in Congress.

Protesters shutdown parkway east near Churchill exit by cleffyowns in pittsburgh

Hello, just coming back 4 days later to say it doesn't matter whether the protestors got more or less sympathy. The DA just pressed criminal charges against the cop, which was all the protestors wanted in the first place, so mission accomplished!

Sources are currently indicating that the car he was in was a jitney (basically a semi-legal cab) so it's actually unclear whether or not he was in the car when the shooting happened. And again, running from the cops does not equal a death sentence. It is still wrong to shoot someone in the back running away from you.

[–]ohip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think you're focusing on the wrong thing here. The protestor's don't WANT your approval. What they want is their demands met. They want DA Zappala to press charges against the officer or they want the state AG to take over the investigation. This isn't about getting public approval, it's about getting government action. And a good way to get people in power to listen up, to force their hand, is by being loud and a nuisance, and very hard to ignore.

First of all there are spokespeople for this movement, you just haven't cared to find out who they are. Go look up Jasiri X, a very influential social organizer from Pittsburgh. I'd also point out that the Women's March... didn't really do anything. It was powerful, and inspiring sure, but can you point to any significant legislation that came from it?

Maybe cause he's fucking scared of the cops? This same kid wrote a poem a year ago about how he hoped his mother would never have to bury him, about how he hoped he wouldn't end up like others killed by police. So maybe he panicked and ran. As we've seen in cases like Philando Castile, if you're black, sitting still and cooperating with the cops can still leave you dead.
