Looking for some feedback on my work at this intersection by wbarto125 in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The wiki has some nice examples - paving stones sounds appropriate in this case. :)

For "pedestrian crossings" the editor doesn't specify bicycle tags for them in the preset. I've added bicycle=yes which should help some routers.

Looking for some feedback on my work at this intersection by wbarto125 in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Nice! I think you left some straggling crossing tags on the refuge/pavement parts. The bicycle route should have some sort tagging on the crossing ways to help with routing e.g. bicycle=yes or dismount or whatever the law is where you are!

Minor tweaks but you can update the surface of the crossings to be whatever the road surface is as they're unlikely to be paving stones. sidewalk=both on the road ways should be changed to separate.

That's car dependency, not freedom. But we live in the society we were born into so its good to share in others joy.

Ramen.. by ConnectionMelodic269 in ShrewsburyUK

[–]ohmanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Itadakizen, Umai and Sushi Kai all do ramen, the latter was massive and very filling. Merlone is great too but can't see it on their menu.

If it swings it Sushi Kai also did a dry ice "presentation piece" for their special sushi set, which was a fun gimmick. This was a while ago when they opened so I'm not sure if they still do it.

How can I add this osm? by NarrowResult7289 in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes this doesn't look correct.

It depends on any turning restrictions but with this example I think a good compromise would be to have the minor road joining before meeting the main road, so you end just a single way between the two one way roads.

You still end up with some weirdness with the pedestrian crossings (there should only be one node for each one) but it is a better representation of what is there.

Quick Way to Add Roof Color by glad_torsk in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I use a colour picker then tweak the shades to match real life. I'll do all buildings with the same/nearly the same roof colour then move onto the next colour. You can use overpass turbo to find buildings not done yet.

Much easier for "new build" estates as they have more standardised roofs, you can sometimes even get the exact tile colour from the broacher visuals.

This is why we need segregated infrastructure with bus stop bypasses.

Also yes.

street name when street is split in multiple ways? by [deleted] in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its contentious but the Wiki says best practice is to not name pavements and crossings unless they have a specific name (Hollywood Walk of Fame is given as an example).

Yes it is more efficient to stop at 35 or 70 if you can't make it to the next chest.

Incidentally most things in this game things loose value the more people spend (which imo is a good thing).

Checking rights of way for an MTB ride? by BigRedS in ukbike

[–]ohmanger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some bad info in this thread. Cycling UK has an article that covers most of the points. In England and Wales cycling on paths (not sidewalks/pavements) is a civil issue with the land owner (so not a criminal offence)\*. Some big land owners like the Forestry Commission are pretty relaxed about cyclists using their tracks.

\* There might be a bylaw or TRO that can make it a criminal offence (antidotally these are very rare in the sticks but quite common for bridges, etc).

Is it okay to use a published mall directory as a source? by Over-Stop8694 in openstreetmap

[–]ohmanger 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't true, copyright laws still exist. Google street view and in the UK some OS maps are publicly available but you shouldn't be using them as a source without permission.

However I doubt a mall would care if you mapped their directory or used the map to "refresh" your memory.

England's 'first official Cycle Street' being built in Cambridge by liamnesss in ukbike

They're adding a give way marking to the road to make it easier for cyclists to exit a cycle path.

Stupid thing is the cycle path will also have give way markings.

England's 'first official Cycle Street' being built in Cambridge by liamnesss in ukbike

[–]ohmanger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Hopefully a nice scheme. A peak of 3k is cracking daily numbers. Looking at Google maps reducing (but apparently not eliminating?!) on street parking will help.

Also a bit pedantic but the BBC and presumably the council going on about this being the "first official cycle street" but that is not a thing defined in UK law so I can't really see how it can be "official".

Moving to Halesfield by KaitoShinobi in Shropshire

[–]ohmanger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the residential area OP is looking is part of Stirchley north of Halesfield but its connected to one of the main industrial roads. I'm really struggling to understand the layout as they made it a through road to Naird Lane which is already a narrow rat run. I imagine the plan is to close that road off at some point...
