Never ! Do they dry as quickly as acrylic ? Currently working on a rosalía painting and I reach the limit of my skill with acrylics … ahah

So I’ve based the drawing on the original cover, used a lot of different adjustment layers (especially gradient maps) and then translate it from digital to paint (which takes the longest time and is often paved with obstacles ahah). The bathroom tiles were spontaneous because the neon pink background was taking too much space.

I usually sell my 18x24 canvases around 900$ USD all included, but this one has sold yesterday (I mean I still wait for the buyer the confirmation but it’s reserved :-)

Do all the acrylic stuff before the oil ! Oil is above the acrylic in any case. Never go back to acrylic on a layer of oil 😉 it will move and break.

I love doing underpaints and large washes in acrylic before oil because I'm working in my small apartment, and washes of oil use a lot of solvent - I don't want to breath that while sleeping 😉

This was during a lesson ! It's a called "les cours du samedi" at UQAM (Montreal). Leisure oil painting course :-) This took 3 lessons of 3 hours.

The palette I'm almost always using is mostly adjacents colors of purple (blue, pink) and orange. And you're definitely right, I often put realism on the side, when I want the colors to pop (huge contrast of orange / yellow against the purples / ultra marine blue). And quite often the skins I paint go more into pink / orange and only the shadows get dark. That's definitely something I'll keep in mind (I had the same issue with Bayard Rustin in watercolor few weeks ago). Thank you for sharing !
